Post your question on www.m5board.com under the E 28 section of the messageboard. You will get an answer and a good one too. There were only 2241 cars ever made so the breakdown will not be so hard to work out.

The only colours used were I believe

Alpine White I CC 146
Black CC 086 US Models
Cinnabar Red CC 218
Diamond Black M CC 181
Dolphin Grey M CC 184
Lachs Silver M CC 203

CC = BMW Colour Code.
M = Metallic

I assume 2241 is the number of M5s made, not E28s?

Where do you find the paint code on an E28? I was under the impression that mine is Opalgrun, not seen it listed, and not seen any others that colour.

That is correct, it is the number of M5's produced. It is possible that one or two cars were 'custom' ordered from BMW with unique paint colours as an optional extra. My data comes form a a book titled Original BMW M-Series, written by James Taylor and published by MBI. You can but it on Amazon.co.uk for around £25.00
