Ipods and Chims
Discussion
I'm having a sony CDXGT something or other fitted next week which has a 3.5m socket in the front. I'll have the 60Gb iPod in the well in front of the gear stick. I have so many tunes I don't scroll through but use random play. I also have an iPod shuffle that can be clipped almost anywhere subject to lead length.
I have a Pioneer AVIC-X1 satnav with an ipod interface in the boot near the CD changer.
I secure the ipod itself using a mobile holder(perfect fit) which is in turn secured by velcro to the o/s wheel arch carpet(don't laugh, works perfectly).
The fly lead hangs down ready to plug in.
It is out of sight in the boot and I don't have to touch it if I park up, I only use it on random.

get the wireless transmitter thingy. it has a couple of advantages not least of which is the fact that you take it with you in any other car and cassette players are getting rarer.
they do work rather well
and if the range is ok (should be) then you can leave the ipod behind the seats out of sight

I recently upgraded my pioneer head unit (kept the changer in the boot), and added an iPod adapter. The adapter slotted under the dash nicely, next to the mirror control box, and the lead for the dock connector then runs down and into the back of the passenger-side pouch (where the glove box isn't). This works well, since I can just get in, connect up the pod and drive off.
BUT!!!!
The pioneer unit is pants if you have more than 5 songs. Browse rate, even with a new, graphics-capable head-unit, is about one menu item per second. It won't queue moves, either, so it's click-wait-click until you get where you want. It'll handle artists, albums, songs, genres, but then forgets what's going on when you turn it off. It remembers where it is and what it's doing, but if you try to move in the track list you're back to starting from scratch. Anything after C just isn't worth getting to...
Apparently Alpine are OK, but i've not seen one.

Hello Ivan, hows it going, did you ever get the centre caps for those Estorils?
Hi Martin, yes and then some, I had already asked around for Estorils at the same time as I bought yours and a mate of mine took me at my word and sourced a set for me too, so I ended up with 3 sets - slight overkill
Thankfully I am down to a more sensible 6 x 16" rims including what is on my car now with only one spare cap which I will keep for spares, things being the way they are today.
I hear Stowmarket is the new Essex for Griff boys?

Hmmm possibly, all going a bit pear shaped at the moment (my buyer has pulled out, the 2nd time thats happened now)
All Ipod adaptors to allow scrolling through the headunit are so slow they are not worth having (i have most of them in my cars). THE ONLY fast scrolling solution is an ALPINE headunit with Ipod FULL SPEED logo - even then it is not as fast as the IPOD but at least 10 times faster than anything else.
If you go the wireless route try one of these:
A200 from Netac
www.netac.tv
Its a great bit of kit and not too expensive and saves having the extra transmitter bit.
Sound quality is great, you sometimes need to change frequencies if you get a bit of interference.

I've been using my Ipod in the Chim for some time and find it ok. I use the small Griffin iTrip (£30). When I got it it was set to 87.9 and I set my radio to this and it works fine. You do need to find a good place for it as it takes little to upset it's reception. I found the best place to be in the passanger dash pocket with the transmitter just poking out. the elastic holds it just fine. For what it's worth I also tried the type that plugs into cigar lighter. "It was rubbish"
