How much oil?

Does the Griff take for a full change, including filling the filter before fitting? My handbook says 5 litres, but I've seen a figure of up to 6.5 mentioned. Anyone know for sure? It doesn't need doing, it's just a personal preference.

A totally empty engine and filter will take a little over 6 litres

So it sounds like the 6.5 figure is closer then. Arse, that makes it an expensive prospect then if I have to buy two 5 litre containers!

you will need top up anyways,they all use oil some more than others it also works out next oil & filter change,failing that buy in 20 or 25 litre drums.

As already stated, you’ll need some for top up and a single 5 litre can isn’t enough anyway so I always buy two. If using Mobil 1 two 4 litre cans will also do it.

Mine takes 7.5 litres, that's with an oilcooler.

Check out Opie oil link on the main TVR forum. They recommended silkolene pro s 10/50 which i have been using for the past few years and am very pleased with it. Having used a nmber of other oils including mobil 1 I find i don't top up that often, much quiter on engine noise/chatter on start up and cheaper too! This is on a regularly used pre cat.

It was the Silkolene I was looking at, I've been dealing with Opie for a couple of years. I'm still making up my mind as to whether to bother - I have done 2000 miles since the last change and it's due for another service in July.

I changed to the Silkolene about 15 months ago - I got a load to use to top up .... and haven't used much at all. On Shell Helix semi my Griff used to drink a fair bit - not so with the Silkolene!
