Hello folks a visitor from the Porsche site.
I have been offered a 2005 Range Rover Vogue with 24,000 miles. I have been informed it has been 'chipped'this I presume is an adjustment to the engine management system to produce greater power/speed. I am a firm believer in that one should keep the car the way it came out of the factory because I presume they know best. Am I being over cautious or are there dangers with this

Done correctly chipping should not cause you concern unless you want to use the RR the way LR designed it. It had to be designed to work in the arctic or the desert, climb steep hills, drive fast on a motorway, last hundreds of thousand miles and return the best fuel mileage possible in this compromise.
The chip will just change or remove some of these priorities.

Hi, I presume the Range Rover is diesel??
I chip a lot of these in my work and my customers report a good increase in power (around 30%), torque, and even better MPG is increased! the throttle lag is notably decreased.
The original mapping put in by the factory keeps the available power well in check and although is adequate is nowhere near what can be acheived with a decent remap.
The chip upgrade will not affect the engine or give any reliability problems.
If the price is right buy it you will not be dissapointed!!
Cheers Roy

Thanks for that
It is a V6 diesel, I am moving from a TD5 Disco (I have had five )the money whilst the seller is not doing me any favours is not a rip off either. I think I have come to a decision, I am going to give it a miss and get a new one. There seem to be some good deals on the V6 now the v8 is coming out. Thanks again.

if its a TD6, with been a 2005 i presume it would be (driven the new V8 diesel and what a brilliant engine!!) then i would get it chipped anyway, the TD6 in standard form is woefully slow in a car that heavy.
Ive been living with a TD6 now for three weeks, and to be honest ive been quite surprised. It seems very responsive. Not X5 fast, but more than adequate.Bearing in mind ive driven the whole current range of LR products bar the new Freelander.I think the TD6 stacks up quite well. BLUETHUNDER said:

, i found getting it moving required the most effort but once it was then yes you could live with it, all it convinced me of though is when i have the money for my one(still not quite there yet
) i shall be going for the 4.4 BMW engined one on around a 02 or 52 reg, the new V8 diesel i thought was brilliant when i took one for a test drive but sadly i dont have that sort of money. Gassing Station | Land Rover | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
