Just thought I'd share my experience with others in the hope that no-one else gets stitched up like I have. Last year I bought an O2 reg Boxster S from XXXXXXXXXX, only to discover that it hadn't had a full service as it was supposed to last year.

It has subsequently cost me £1500 to service the car this year. If you buy a Porsche, check to see the service record and to see that spark plugs, brake fluid, airbag checks amongst other things have been done on the car in a previous service. So that you don't get caught out like I have.

XXXXXXX at XXXXXXXXXXXX says that he is honest and sells good cars, but mine has had to have loads of work done on it and I only do 6000 miles per year, so I know now that the service he did last year was a very basic one and has proved to be very costly.

In line with this sites no naming and shaming policy I've edited out the details of the dealer concerned. I'm leaving the thread up though as a reminder to people to do the obvious things like check out the the service history and know exactly what state the car is in. With some people doing very low mileages it doesn't surprise me that people often skip things like brake fluid changes, sparks etc.

Did you not look in the Service book ?

Have you been back to see xxxx at xxxxxxx to give him the opportunity to put things right?

Jeremy, are you sure you're talking about the same guy? I am sure that it was XXXX and not xxxx. Now if it was xXXx,then we all know already to give him a wide berth

I guess I should have looked at the service history book more closely, but when you see that a car has a full service history and not having had a boxster before I didn't necessarily know that it should have had alternate major and minor services.

The guy I bought the car off (seeing as though I'm not alllowed to name the company - oops!!)said he was an approved porsche garage, so with a name like porsche you expect certain standards to be upheld don't you? Or is that just me being too trusting?

Anyway, hope no-one else experiences what I have

A bit of both. Easy to sit here and say "you should have checked" but I can understand why someone would probably just see the stamps and assume it's FPSH.

I believe there are no "approved" Porsche dealers other than the OPCs.

um...ok
even if you had the car serviced last year, it would still need servicing again this year.
£1500 may sound a lot but if even a few items are found in addition to the schedule then that sort of figure can easily be achieved.
If you were planning on keeping the car more than a couple of years then a service in that ballpark was always going to be likely.
Be heartened in the knowledge that your car is now in tiptop condition, cna be hooned mercilessly and the next service will be a small one

yes
It is a lot of money of course, although if my service + fettle was only going to be that figure I'd buy a nice bargain barge from the change.
Porsche are expensive - but try keeping a Ferrari if you really like wincing

However it is a little sad that a dealer sells a car late for a service unless they tell you and it's part of the deal, not sure I'd be happy paying dealer prices for that...
