Tuscan front uprights?

Im just in the process of putting together the front ball joints (top and bottom) into the front uprights.
I have about 2mm play between the size of hole in the upright and the dia of the shaft on the ball joint. Am I missing some extra liner/cap?
Or do I need to knock the old inserts out and get a couple machined to the same dia as the ball joint shaft?
Just comes across as being that I have something missing and with not having all the parts to begin with its a big jigsaw.

Just been out into the shed to have a look at my spare set. the aluminium uprights have a steal insert in them and the ball joint is s tight fit in that. nothing else, so sounds like either the ball joints you have are wrong (xj6) or the inserts in the ones you have have been modified for some reason?

I had a feeling that the inserts had been modified. Its a trip to the machine shop then for me.
