Ok, just collect a 3200 GT, which was great until the Check Engine light cam on after 6 miles, it went of after 8miles and then back on after 9 miles. It is now constanly on! I was preparing myself for getting used to this light as it seems to be quite popular with everyone on this forum, but then, power greatly reduced, almost bugger all in fact. It still goes through the rev range but very slowly. I have now arrived at home, excited, scared and a little bit unsure about the whole thing. Any ideas anyone?
The oil pressure is 5 and the temp looks fine

Dont't panic.. just give the dealer a call in the a.m. and TELL them to come and sort it for you - you should not have to deal with this if you just bought it - bet it's some sensor gone doolally

Were did you get it from?

Mine is currently in the garage again. 2 days after the last visit and 2 days after the end of the warranty. A crash sensor has dissintregrated - cost £600. Had a similar power issue to yours.

Good luck either way. Ask for a good replacement car.

Welcome to Maserati ownership....seriously if the temps levels and oil pressure are ok it's not going to be anything to worry about, the CEL comes on if any annomilies are detected on either side of the engine compared to the other side or known variables.....which means they come on fairly often with no real reason!

Hi guys thanks for the support, a problem shared and all. Well here is the update. In my desperation i trawled through the forum for any shred of hope and someone had mentioned in a previous post that these cars do not take kindly to heel & toe driving, in fact they go into limp mode if you persist. With this in mind i returned to the car and bravely started it up(they do sound great) no error lights and full power available, good start. Then took it for a good drive(45miles) whilst making sure that i didn't get anywhere near any heel & toe action. No error or issues with power? I know these have a reputation for being irrational in the electronics department, but a part of me is hoping that the limp mode was caused by the use of brake and accelerator together, thats what i will tell myself for tonight as i probably won't sleep otherwise! I had the car checked over by a trusted mechanic and also it has been into Gray Paul for a once over. I also have a friend at Gray Paul who has assured me it was ok to buy. We will have to wait and see what tomorrow brings, after a very bad start i felt myself starting to bond with the car. A few more fault free outings and i think i could be falling deep for this one. I will keep you all posted on progress, or lack of it!

If i manage a couple of days without fault i will heel & toe to see if i can bring this on again.

Thanks again, really appreciate it.

FWIW, the most common cause of Check Engine light is failing to allow the electronics time to complete their POST routines after ignition on and before starting. Simply allow all idiot lights to extinguish before starting - It's that simple

Hope this helps

when i first picked up mine, the next day the light came on and i thought...oh no!

it happened a few times but then went away. over the last 6 months or so it's only gone into limp mode 2 or 3 times so nothing to wory about. lets the lights all go out before starting the car and let it warm up properly and all should be well!
