I like mine. The performance and handling are good, though no better than a standard 06 Gallardo (with sports suspension). I wouldn't expect them to be a collectible although they might bring a little more than a similarly optioned standard 06 car because of the distinctive colour scheme.

Here's a quick summary of the car. You can easily google for more info.

The Gallardo SE is a limited edition 500bhp Gallardo. It has the same 5 litre V10 as the normal Gallardo however it has been tuned up a bit. A two tone paint job will distinguish the models. All the SE cars have a black (Nero Noctis) painted roof, engine cover, mirrors and front and back spoilers.

The SE's could only be chosen in 6 colour alternitives Balloon white, Giallo Midas, Arancio Borealis, Verde Ithaca and 2 grey colours unsure of the names (one is the same colour as on the lp640 press car).

The interior is different to the standard gallardos. The interior of the cars were made to match the exterior of the cars and they have the lambo logo embossed into the headrest.

There were newly designed rims for the SE and you had a choice of either grey or yellow painted calipers.

There were a few modifications done to the car including shorter gear ratios this improved acceleration from 0-62 in 4.2sec to 4sec. The top speed of the car also was changed to 196mph.

Dont know if they will become collectiable

Performance was the 06 model year increases (520bhp engine, changed ratios in the 'box etc). If you have read any reports on the subtle but cumulative changes in the Gallardo for the 06 model year then you will understand the importance of the SE, as it incorporated all of those changes and was limited edition (only 14 UK cars). Values have been strong for the 06 MY anyway, and add to that the fact that the SE is limited edition and it's safe to say that it will always be worth more than a standard Gallardo. Also looks fantastic in my opinion. Gunmetal callisto rims were standard, and the cars were quite highly specified, including glass engine cover etc.

Difficult to say whether the SE will be collectable.

Many of the improvements are available on the '06.

The thing about the SE is that it came with all the goodies, so is very well specced (carbon, alcantara steering wheel, etc). And the two tone colour scheme makes it more distinctive than the standard car.

Put it this way. They won't be building any more and if you went to a Lamborghini event it's unlikely you'd be parked next to another SE!

There is a lovely silver SE in Romans Intl at the moment. A couple of weeks ago the salesman in there was telling me that the SE had carbon mirrors, carbon roof and special lightweight magnesium wheels! - was this utter tosh he was spouting ? (none of it looked like carbon weave to me)

I dont like the smoked rear light lenses on the SE though...looks a bit Max Power too me.

Yes the 06 cars do produce 520bhp. The earlier cars were 500bhp. The SE was built in 2005 when the rest of the Gallaros had 500bhp.

The SE to my knowlege doesn't have carbon mirrors or roof they are just painted black. As far as I know the whole car is aluminium.

As for the wheels I doubt they are magneseium the Murcie's wheels aren't even magnesium. He was probably just talking 'utter tosh' to try and get you to buy the car.

Anyway I will check the net tonight to see if this is true or not.

I have just checked the official Lambo website and it says nothing about carbon mirrors or roof. It says the cars were made from 'Aluminium with thermoplastic "hang on" parts'.

I can confirm the SE doesn't have carbon fibre roof and mirrors etc. They are just painted (in a nice gloss black, mind you).

In Australia at least, the SE was substantially cheaper than speccing the car with the same options. The price differential over a standard car was less than 10% - and for that I got pearl paint, callisto wheels, full leather interior (perforated leather on everything) rear view camera, electric seats, glass engine cover, coloured trim and piping on seats, alcantara wheel, Corsa tyres, coloured calipers, sports suspension, cupholder and other interior stuff AND the xxx/250 badge.

It was great value over a stock 06 car.

Here's some pics from a run last year. We got our cars filthy as you can see.

So much utter tosh posted, if you don’t know the real answer why bother posting? The SE is the MY06 car with a special paint scheme. The higher price actually worked out (like the previous post) at a saving of just over 10% on a standard MY06 if you spec’d the car with the same options fitted to all SE.

That included: Sport suspension, egear, SatNav, reversing camera, glass engine cover and a few minor interior options. I can’t remember if it also included the nose lift option.

14 SE were officially imported into the UK, globally, a few SE are manual! I did hear at least one had left the British mainland, so the number of UK cars could be even lower. HR Owen have the figures for the UK, including how many in each colour, I think at least 2 in the UK were silver.

BHP quotes differ from 510 to 528, however the consensus seems to be ~520, the same as the MY06 car. But hell, these are Italian figures, you only have to run a G for a while before you figure out the outside temp and petrol tank gauges are just guessing.

The big changes on the G all happened with the SE showing them off. So MY06 cars have new suspension, new quicker steering rack (which I prefer over the MY05) smaller ratios in the lower gears – first gear in the G always was too long, and again I would say the new ratio makes the car more fun to drive, and feel a little more responsive. Almost forgot, new exhaust in the SE/MY06 cars, sounds much better. Many other under the hood minor changes also happened between the MY05 – 06. I believe Lamborghini were prioritising lowering the number of warranty claims, which resulted in several small changes.

But it’s hard to see what else they could really change now, other than playing around the edges.

That’s the extent of my knowledge, if you need to know any more, I’d suggest talking to the UK importer, and not some independent telling you the plastic roof is carbon!

Hope that helps,
Simon

I made my choice. When the G was released in late 2003 I was impressed by the design and concept. After owning a few Italian cars, I was also pleased to see Audi backing the brand. But it was a new car, and so I waited until they worked out the niggles. The G didn’t really suffer from any major problems. In 2005 a number of small changes were made to the car, new piston heads for example, which all gave me the confidence I was waiting for.

I bought my G in November 2005. Since then I’ve covered 30,000 miles (service booked week after next) in all weather. I’ve had the odd little problem, like a blocked fuel injector, but when anything does go wrong, it is fixed quickly without the typical Italian approach. You know what I mean, oh that’s not covered, or we have to wait 2 weeks for Italy to sign on the work!

For me, ownership goes beyond the car to take into consideration service, running costs, and having some fun with the car. With all these points, Lambo win over Ferrari. HR Owen have looked after me providing, and I ‘m not joking, the best after sales care I’ve ever experienced. This means I don’t become disappointed by the car due to the after sales service/care. I’ve had some great days / evenings out with the club, and though the club made some great new friends.

If all i was interested in was taking the car on the track, then I’d have to say (though gritted teeth) that I’d buy a 430. So what are you looking for in a car?

That is of course just my thoughts, for those who buy a 430, great, its just not for me.
