996 GT2 0-186mph Stats
Discussion
Its actually April's edition of Total911 Magazine.
Your stats are correct, 996GT2 from standstill to 186mph and back again in 51 seconds. By comparison, the standard 996TT takes 75 seconds just to get to 186mph.
I guess with the added aerodynamics, larger turbo's providing increased power & torque that once the GT2 gets into double figures it really does start to show its true colours.

Yeah 0-100 the 996TT and GT2 are probably a lot closer but the 996TT will "struggle" (if it can be called that) to get the last 10 or 20 mph compared to the GT2 banging its head on the 180mph mark and I expect they are comparing Carbon Discs on the GT2 against the steel 996TT.
Dont forget that "on paper" the GT2 isnt much slower than the Carrera GT.
My friend added a lamp-post optional extra to a customers GT2 and it had to be lifted off by crane only to find out some small print on the Insurance Paper work...another trader friend spun one on the M3 and damaged it to the tune of £14k and the insurance declined the claim as the tyres were below wear limits.

Guys,
Can someone with this months copy of 911 World check these stats I read in WHSmith today? I think I misread them or was it a misprint. They are in the GT2 article.
A 996TT can do 0-186mph in 75secs,
where a GT2 can go 0-186mph and back to 0 in only 51secs.
Can that be right?

I take it you didn't buy the magazine so you could save the £4.25 towards the purchase of your GT2??
Tight git.....
.and how could you confuse 'that other magazine' with Total911? Having said that, they have put 911s on the cover 10 times in the last 12 issues....strange that.....

Whether its right or wrong - its hardly a useful 'feature' if you drive on Britains roads
Still impressive though...

I don't believe these stats. I say this having driven my 996TT X50 to 180+mph speeds at VMAX achieving within 2 or 3 mph of the standard GT2s. I certainly don't believe the standard 996TT is that far down on the X50.
Where did the magazine do the tests?
Link to VMAX results (through a laser speed trap) showing an X50 runing the same top speed as a GT2 and the standard TT only 5 mph behind:

I agree my TT was too slow, hence the DMS guys were called into action,it actually feels as quick as the gt2 i drove and i would certainly rather be in the tt if pushing hard on the road.I think you would be wise to read a few articles that have been written by Evo magazine (and i think 911 world) where the authors drove tt's and categorically stated that a gt2 would not get close on the road as the gt2 set-up for road use is not particularly good.Horses for courses and all that..gt2 on the track ,tt on the road..1st comandment do not question the gt2 again

Does that list actually say that the DMS turbo was quicker than a standard gt2?Blimey for £1500 ecu upgrade that old lard bucket,4wd tt can go quicker than the supposed race-tuned lightweight widow-maker..makes the gt2 look a tad over-rated actuallyWhere did the magazine do the tests?

That DMS turbo has a lot more mods than an ECU reprogram.....
One of the GT2s problems at very high speeds is the downforce from the rear spoiler that makes cornering so good actually makes accelleration harder. Witness GuyR's RufGT2 doing 202mph with the spolier taken off verses his previous best with the spoiler on of 197. ie 5mph difference.

One word , F**K , i always knew GT2's are quick but jesus!
And that was exactly my reaction.
And that got me thinking:
£40k will get me a TT but another £10k to £15k would get me a GT2

There have been a couple of cars in the last 6-12 months which have gone for around that figure as you are probably aware, however with prices firming up of late, I seriously doubt you will find a good car for anything less than low 60's, believe me I looked at plenty.

Stock 420hp 996tt has never been tested 0-300kph before (AFAIK) the reason for this is probably because it takes too long to get there, mags usually only bother with this test if the cars are sub 50 seconds.
The 996tt has a final drive of 28.1mph/1000rpm so its maximum speed is achieved right at its rev limiter 6750rpm, 300kph is achieved at 6620rpm
The fastest a 996tt 420hp has been timed at (AFAIK) is 0-250kph which took 27s
A 997tt takes 20.7s to 250kph and a further 20s to get from 250kph to 300kph (and has another 60hp)
My guess is the last few mph up to 300kph took a long time due to lack of power -those extra 30 Porsche hp in the X50 make a big difference at these speeds
Porsches curves for the 420hp 996tt stop at 6500rpm interestingly....
Or the engine could have beeen knackered

I think the major difference between the TT and GT2, is that with the GT2 the driver is in control.. whereas with the TT the car does 95% of the work for you. The TT driver would be a bit like the driver of a TJV train in France.. you can do 186mph in the train but not much driver input needed.

Absolute bollox..a tt will still catch you out if you drive it badly enough ,the difference is that to balls it up in a tt you are actually going fast..in a gt2 you THOUGHT you were going fast because it was all over the road
