Just got off the phone with Adrian Flux Insurance:rage

Well wadya know!

FACT:

I took the cover for building my Ultima last year and as usual they asked if I was keeping it at home in the garage, which I was, so got the qote and went ahead!

Just recently I have had to move the car since my garage is being rebuilt, moving it to some people |I know on a remote farm where there is plenty of people around, very secure and put it into a steel clad garage, well padlocked.

Being a good guy, I rang the agents phone and told them of my move, and guess what!!! They told me that since it was not at home and in a brick garage, they could not insure the car!furious

...Then they tell me that since the policy was not cancelled within 14 days, I don't get any Money back either!readit

So not only don't I get my money...the car is now uninsured!yikes!!AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

B@stard rip-off merchants...and some wonder why we think they are SCUM!shootcurse

Words fail me!!!!!ranting

HELP!weeping What the hell do I do now???

Not exactly very flexible for a specialist insurer banghead

Isn't the car insured otherwise though, for normal driving, but not for theft if kept in this other garage? You'd hope that could bung them a tenner for policy mod for an alternate location (just as secure) and then everything be OK again once the car is in its new garage ? scratchchin Suppose they are saying they can't insure overnight anywhere else? How about saying you are on holiday at this other location as the car would be away from home address if you were on holiday anywhere .. (creative thinking mode on!) ?

This topic interests me as I'm looking into a new bigger garage too .

I'd check you policy if it says it has to be kept at night in your garage at your address your kind of stuffed.
But I would have thought it is more likely to be when kept at home it has to be garaged. (this by the way is a get out clause if it gets pinched off your drive)

Well that's not a problem, who’s to say you were not staying the night with a lady or had gone out with a friend, and thus parked it at there house and you thought there garage was safer than the street.
If you gave them the address and details you can't use the place you were thinking of, as they record calls.

Is it shifty? Well maybe, but you will be insured, it's only for storage and you say it is only temporary.

I'm not saying this what you or I would do, its just an option.
As they say on blind date
The choice is yours.

Na,

The car is in mid build, so I would be hard pressed to convince them I was off on a jolly!
Seems that these build insurances are rediculously expensive and rediculously restrictive.

God knows what you do if you want to build one in other than your own domicile garage like say a workshop!

It's pathetic.....anyway I am going to have another shot at them and suggest that they suspend the insurance till the garage is built and then reinstate it for the remaining paid time, but I don't hold out much hope, as I recon thay will say tough! If so, I thionk I will go and talk to the insurance ombudsman, and maybe even try to put a litigation claim in for unfair contract! I don't like being crossed!

I feel so irked! Recon its time to start a campaign against car Insurance companies and their poor service, especially as (apart from build insurance) you are normally FORCED by legislation to take insurance out....and ooohhh! Don't they know it....the public is getting fleeced on a regular basis. Anyone up for it?

Keith, sorry to hear of your problems with AF, but I am not surprised as they didn't even have the courtesy to phone or write when I had a claim for storm damage on my GTR, however I have found that complaining to the Financial Ombudsman Service can be a useful policy and will gradually twist the arms of such people. I have to say that I won't be using AF again and will advise all others of such events. If you do decide to take further action keep all your letters and a log of all phone calls etc, boring but helpful to your case. Tim
