Hi, am totally new to Pilgrim cars and as i'm going to view a Pilgrim Hawthorn this Sunday was after a bit of advice.

It was built in 1987 with Morris Marina running gear, the engine and gearbox have since been replaced from a Triumph Dolomite 1854cc complete with overdrive gearbox. Is it well known to use the engine and gearbox from the Dolomite, can the chassis handle the weight ?

Are there any inherent faults I should be looking out for?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a source of history of Pilgrim cars, particularly the Hawthorn of course. I tried the offical pilgrim website but it only mentions their new cars.

Finally, i've not been able to find any other hawthorns for sale to do a price comparison. Know it's difficult with kit cars and old cars as they vary so much, but what sort of price should I expect to pay ? The pics i've seen of the car appear to show it's in good nick and the owner says all in good working order, no rust with decent wet weather gear.

Cheers, Jase

To add to the info you can get from John's site I can tell you that the Hawthorn started off as an old (1960s I think) kit that Pilgrim took on during the 1980s with the aim of developing. However shortly after they launched it they then brought out the Cortina based Sumo Cobra replica and became inundated with orders for that, so the Hawthorn sort of faded into the background. Don't think they sold many.
