Hello all,

an mot fail crack in my windscreen means I've had to bite the bullet and get the whole screen replaced recently. I've read all the past advice on this forum about this and there are some good tips.

One attempt has been made by a firm in Colchester but its not good enough. There is a gap between the screen rubber and the door frame on the passenger side. I can actually see paintwork through the gap. The rubber of the drivers side door is too snug as well. The door closes but is sticks out slightly. So its going back next week.

It would be useful to know in advance what the availability of parts is like at the moment so I can deal with any flannel.

They have used a non TVR windscreen. I'm not sure if its slightly too small or just badly fitted. Does it have to be a TVR one or are alternatives acceptable . If a proper TVR screen is best anyone know a source?

Same story with the rubber trim which has been re-used. Is the new stuff available from anywhere?

Any help or info much appreciated.

We have about 30 Griffith/Chimaera screens in stock and have also had the side/top trim remanufactured in a slightly softer compound so that it doesn't pucker on the corners.
The screens are not OE manufacture but they do fit perfectly; we have done several for PHers who have been very pleased with the fit and finish. We can do billing to your insurer for most companies subject to excess and any limits that might apply.
We attended BBWF last year and completed six Wedge screen replacements on the day and many more in the following months.

hope this helps

Hi

I would insist on a proper TVR labelled screen. I had a new screen fitted last year by Autoglass and despite me telling them to only fit a TVR screen they fitted (or tried to fit) a Clearvue screen - it was a disaster - slightly too big. They then got a TVR one which was a perfect fit - although the new rubbers weren't great - I wish they had refitted the originals.

Hi, I got in touch with central TVR who then used sub contractors to fit an original screen. they did a good job, no problems.

Just had one fitted to mine by my local indie dealer, Dulfords in Devon.

The insurance paid for it and the guys did a cracking job.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice - up to the minute info was just what I needed.

I've been there again and they are going to redo it but I will insist it is a proper TVR screen to begin with. Something else I noticed today was that the exterior rubber does not actually meet the edges of the glass in some places along the side! It must be one of the slightly larger screens Rob mentioned. I'll keep you posted.

Hi,

the info here on availability of TVR screens and other expereinces was very useful and I now have a new screen. However it did take a couple of return trips to get a proper fitting and a proper rubber finish (i.e. one that did not peel away or crinkle in the upper corners a few days after fitting rolleyes ). It did become ridiculous towards the end so I would not use the same company again.

Anyhow the main thing is that the car is now in full use in all of this lovely sunshine.
