MOBIL 1 10W 50

I have been using the wrong Mobil one by all accounts too thin (??w 40), so I intend to top up from now on with 10W 50 which I believe is better for the griff 500's. But where do you get the stuff from! tried loads of places and they just have ??w 40. Any suggestions?

Halfords, Castrol GTX. I do not go along with the "posh is best", not in this case anyway.

If you use the thicker Mobil 1 (sold as Motorsport here) then it is worth a trip over to France to get it, less than half the price there as it is not sold as a premium brand.

yes got some in france a few years back.

if i top up with none mobil 1 ??w 40 which is 10w 50 will it be ok?

Hello jonny tvr,not sure if this helps but I got some from Halfords before Christmas.They sell it in 5 Litre bottles,so you only need to buy 1 bottle + a 1 litre bottle[instead 2 4litre ones].Its actually the 15W 50 Mobil 1 you need.Cheers,Dave J.

mobil 1 aint as good in my oppinion as its talked up to be...i have always gone with morris oils..multivis semi synthetic i swaer by...used in all my cars..believe me ..ive had a few..

a trip to Halfords then today. Will topping up with 15w 50 on top of the 40 jobby make any difference or should I do an oil change (it had one recently)

I always used Mobil 1 15W50 in the past and always got it from Halfords.

However since I do around 2000 miles between oil changes and I don’t do track day’s, I’ve now switched to Halfords own brand 0W50 Synthetic Motorsport oil which is cheaper and comes in 5 litre cans.

always found that the Rover V8 doesn't really like Mobil 1 or any fully synth oil as it just gets too thin and burns off. I don't think you can go far wrong with GTX or, my preferred lube, Valvoline racing. I often use 20/50 too. Don't forget this engine was designed in about 1950.....

Got Silkolene Pro S (10/50 I think) in both the Griffs - it is esther based which apparently is better at high temps as it doesn't break down. It gives very good oil pressure and doesn't burn off too much. As recommended by Opie Oils (had Pro R previously).
I don't think there is a definative answer and everyone will tell you different stories.

Agree with FFG.

I use Silkolene 10W50 Pro S too on my 45k miles Griff - the oil gets changed every 3k miles, and the car uses 500ml per 1500 miles.

Each to his own I suppose.

I'm certainly no oil nerd but my engine is quiter with good consitant oil presuure and uses far less oil from when it used shell helix 5W30.

I'll second that.

20/50 Valvoline Racing made a vast difference to my oil pressure.
