Can anyone throw any logic to the fact only one of my cooling fans activates when at temperature. The fuse seems okay as the horn it shares still works. The fuse is rated at 25amp but note SH suggests 40amp fuse, but it hasn't failed so unless they are on different circuits I'm baffled.

Anything obvious i've missed ?

Not sure what year yours is, but my 99 4.0 has two fan circuits with two fuses rated at 25A (No's 3 & 19) and two fan relays, the first fuse also feeds the horn. Hope this helps.

Mine was simply a corroded connector.

I thought they came on one at a time (?). If one is enough to lower them temp the other will not come on. Or, the fan can be knackered.

What happens to the temp if you leave her stationary ?

Both my fans come on at the same time as I have only one otter (fan) switch controlling both relays!

Seconded mine were pretty bad, although both fans worked they worked better once the connectors were cleaned up.

Some useful advice to keep me going - its no emergency as at least one is working.

Its a 95/96 model. I suppose it could be a staggered switch but how hot does need to get before it switches on?

I can't see another fuse in the handbook, so i guess they run off the same circuit. I will try switching over the fans

hello i had the same problem.I switched the connectors and found out that the other fan was working ok. BUT those 2 fans are not on the same fuse!!!!! I looked in to the steve heath book and there are 2 fuses. so separately!!!I forgot which fuses but one of mine was broken.

mine has a fuse for each, pulled off both connectors and determined 12v on both when hot, swapped connectors over to make sure circuit b would drive fan A (working one), so therefore fan B is b for bug**red. Got a new fan through searching the forum and tvr webs with the part number and swapped it out. Do this when the car is cold since you are working inches from the cats.

If its 95/96 it may have one or two fuses, although if the one is 25A the modification to 2 fuses looks like its been done. The fuseboard layout is in the handbook so try the fuse first, otherwise swap the connector over and see if the other fan actually works. Its worthwhile cleaning the connectors anyway before you do all this and try and protect them - I use some old bicycle inner tube taped at either eind, it just slides over the one connector, join them back up and tape in place. Also use plenty of vaseline of the connections prior to inner tube fitting.

An interesting development still leaves me confused (well relatively interesting anyway...)

I changed the cooling fan fuse at the weekend to 40 amp (from 25 amp), the second fan came on after a short time, no problem. I noted later than the horn no longer functioned (shares same fuse), so i changed the fuse for another 40amp and the horn then worked but the second fan didn't activate....... this makes no sense at all.

I could find no second 25 amp for a second fan (or 40amp) but the relay for teh fans had been replaced by some direct wiring to the fuse board which looked very professional.

The salient point here is that by changing one fuse, i seem to have teh choice of one fan plus horn, or two fans plus no horn. Shouldn't be rocket science TVR's eh........
