Monaco Grand Prix???

Hey guys,
I fancy going to the Monaco Grand Prix this year, but don't know much about F1 or Monaco or much, so need some help, please excuse my ignorance here!!!:
Being as the Grand Prix is on the streets, can you just watch from the pavement (if so, is this free?)...
I know you can buy tickets, but is that just for the grandstands?
The tickets seem REALLY expensive (400+ euro's), is that normal? and I notice that 1 ticket price was just 70 euro's - where is that and is that just a waste of money?
Where can you stay around Monaco without busting the bank!
As I said, I'm keen to go and see what it's all about, but don't want to spend a fortune and could do with some advice of what is essential to know.
Any help, much appreciated.

Youve got this Monaco thing all wrong....
Whilst it might be a street race you have to pay to see it, although there may be some free viewing from the top of the hillside under the Palace.
The 70 Euro area might be lower down the hillside, where I have watched from before. Its basically on the hillside overlooking the final corner, but get the right spot and you can see the big screen through binoucalrs, and see the cars as they come round the harbour, and go down the start/finish straight.
Stay in Nice and catch the train in, and it can be a cheap race, in fact the cheapest to attend!
If you do sit on the hillside you won;t have a seat, so might have a problem to leave your pitch to answer a call of nature, and it can be hot and dusty there!

You won't see anything without a ticket. The cheapest tickets are about €70, for the rocher, which is the hillside. If you plan on buying one of these, you better get to the circuit very very early, and there's no seats or anything. Not sure how good the view is - not fantastic.

As for accommodation, anywhere along the coast is fine as there's a regular train service in and out of Monaco. You wouldn't want to drive in on race day.

My experience at Monaco is probably not what you want to hear!! When I went through Page & Moy, I paid for the best seats I could get as I thought I was only going to do it once. They were in the garden of the Hotel Mirabeau (near the tunnel.) and were for two days including lunch. I can't remember how much they were but they were worth every single penny. Two days of F1 so close you could almost touch the cars and a fantastic lunch by the pool. It is the best race in the calender for atmosphere, so if you're going save up and do it properly. I have memories I will never forget and photos that you couldn't pay for.

I don't mind spending the money if its going to be worth it, problem is because I've not been before I don't know what is good or not!! Do any of you recomend any of the grandstand's in particular?
Is it worth booking an all-inclusive trip or can I do it a lot cheaper by making my own travel arrangements and buying tickets separately.

Have a chat with Page & Moy and they will be able to give you some very competitive deals. (No I don't work for them!). Unless you are going to drive yourself down I would leave all the organisation to someone like them. From the Hotel Mirabeau you could see them come down the hill from the old station hairpin, turn in front of you and then disappear into the tunnel. If you don't want to spend all the money I believe there is a grandstand next door but you won't get the lunch.
A true hairs on the back of the neck moment was when the race started and you could hear all of them thundering up to where we were and then them all wizzing by on the first lap. We didn't need any diamond vision screen as we had a group of crazy Italian Ferrari fans in a flat across the track who would dash in from their balcony to watch the race on TV when the cars weren't there and then dash back out just before the cars came by. Lots of arm and flag waving and we were taking bets as to which one would fall out as the red cars came by.
As I said, happy days...

Depends on what you want to see. Positioned correctly you can see a lot of the circuit, and I preferred it to being trackside as you could see the cars for longer! However there is no seat!

Yeah, but you're a long way away from the cars. If you're in the grandstands they're about 15 feet away.
