I'm having what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity, so thought that I would write this.
I was at a PH piss-up over the course of the weekend, and during moments of soberness went with J_S_G to get some petrol for his 350T.
To this date the only other TVR I have been in is madbadgers Tamora and that was amazing, he has some sort of exhaust custom made by the devil. The sound is so loud and beautiful. Anyway...
I have always loved the shape of the 350, I really do think its a beautiful car, and have always fancied one when I'm a tad older and out of this soap-dodgeresqueness that some people call being a student. However I never thought that I would actually ever buy one due to the small reliability issues that I've heard a small amount of people talk about.
Anyway, we headed out in the North Yorkshire Moors (or Dales, I don't quite know which or what the difference is) to the nearest village to get petroleum. Now James had a sports exhaust, but I doubt it was made by the devil as it wasn't as loud. Don't get me wrong though it was still bloody loud, you'd need to hear Andy's Tam to understand what I mean. All I could think was what a glorious sound it was. As we were heading to the village the 350 seemed ever so composed on the roads, which weren't the smoothest around. It appeared highly agile and capable of pretty much anything.
We got the petrol and he showed me a few tricks of removing excess fuel from the car.
As we headed back the engine was at optimum operating temperature so driver was giving all horses under the bonnet the message as we dispatched car after car with such ease. My clio is pretty decent at overtaking on a whym(sp?) but this is rediculous, its so easy, and so much bloody fun you have to overtake things.
James managed to show me the acceleration full on in 1st and 2nd, and I was absolutely loving it. The aural sensation was terrific, I loved it. (I know I said I loved it twice there, once for the acceleration, another for the sound
)
Now as I said before the 350 was probably a car that I wouldn't actually own, but after that trip in one, I'm pretty much dedicated to having one as my next car, I don't care what goes wrong with the things, when they are on form like it was yesterday, there is nothing like them. The total composure and confidence given in the 350 only hightens it brilliance in my eyes.
I am going to own one, no matter what. It was brilliant. Most of it comes down to the sound for me, well and the speed, and the looks. The whole of the car is amazing.
I'll probably have to keep the Clio for another 1 and half years until I get a proper job, and as soon as I do I will be seeking a T350. I'm more persuaded to a Targa at this moment in time, as I wanted a convertible as my next car, and this seems like the best of both worlds. Although I've heard there can be problems with the locking mechanisms on the roof covers over 130mph.
TVR T350, god damnit what a car.
Rob
I was looking into an E46 M3 as my next car, but thats been well and truely scratched off the board in favour of a TVR.
I tell you what folks, a year and a half can't come soon enough.

from the noise of it burbling away at idle and lines i could look at all day in my driveway, to the howl of the six when the rev needle aims for the sky as the rear tyres squeel for grip, i love every bit of it. i miss it even having just been offshore a couple of weeks
iv been changing my mind daily for the last 3 months as to weather or not i should sell it, the more time goes by sat here offshore the more i am beginning to think > keep the T350t, i have replaced alot of the smaller breakables/common faults already so should try get the use from them but my only worry is > its at 21,500 on the clock, first clutch (which feels fine) and no rebuild on the engine. I know at service i was told by dave at automedon just keep using it,service it regularly and you wont have a problem but with so many having rebuilds im a bit worried,
should i buy a warranty to cover engine rebuild? iv also to expect the cost of a new clutch soon i'd imagine, and what else might go wrong BUT i love it and even if it takes me 2 years to pay for the upgrades/rebuild im swaying towards KEEP and enjoy, yes it costs the earth but i cant see any alternative, my TVR rocks!

Love it! Love it! Love it!
Soooooooooooo good, I said it three times!!
Had mine just a month, and it's as addictive as you cud imagine
I too am worried about future bills, as I reckon on 15,000 miles a year, but I'd much rather drive it nearly every day, and have all that fun and motoring enjoyment, and then have the bills, than drive it once/twice a fortnight, and have all the niggles that seem to come with low mileage driving, and still get the bills anyway!!

Even worse when some grinning lunatic is sat next to you having the time of his life, keeping the revs above 5000 and you have some of the best driving roads in Scotland to play on. When it my own company's aural magic on offer it was a wierd mixture of feeling elated at the noise they made and how happy the customer was and feeling gutted that I was only a passenger and not driving one of them!
So campers decision time...Sagaris or Tuscan II droptop?
I think I currently must hold the title for the most indecisive car buyer of all time!

I keep thinking about this car.
Does anyone want to help me rob a bank? Or an insurance company? I'm sure they've got loads of spare cash?
I can't wait a year and a half for a T350.
Oh by the way, does anyone know roughly what insurance will be like for a 23 year old on one? Should I present them my arsehole?

James' comments of 'it wants to kill you' wasn't exactly inspiring, although the fact that he wants another is.
sounds about right.... mines tried to kill me a couple of times.... but thats part of the fun!
its like poking a rabbit with a stick, i'm sure it gets abit boring after .... um 3 seconds....
now try the same with a sleeping bear.... dangerous, but not boring!
when i got mine last year i was 24 and paid £1175 insurance
get saving......

You could always buy Nervous's Sag, I think he mentioned he was selling it soon to buy a house or something like that.
I'd be a little worried about the past two owners though, Nervy goes without saying and apparently the first guy was a complete nutter.
Doooo it!! DJC said:

??? Are you nuts?
I know the car you drove at DM, I drove it a cpl of months back and nearly fell asleep at the wheel out of boredom! Stick to the VXT for God's sake! Now that is a motor I enjoyed having a drive in

I do love my T350. That's probably why I don't bother to post much about it on here - it's just "nice" (ok, possible understatement!) Mentioning the trivial pains of getting the roof to stay on (and quiet) and a couple of airlocks in the radiator just don't really seem worth it (he says waiting for the engine, clutch, and gearbox all to give way at any moment!
)
It is a far, far more composed and accomplished drive than the Tuscan was. Not as smooth as the Cerb (on Nitrons), but so much fun and so confidence inspiring on the twisty bits. Will it blow up? Most likely. Do I care? Not at all - it's got plenty of warranty cover for that, and in the meantime it's fab. And, when the time comes, the draw of a T2/Sagaris next is rather strong!
Just one thing, 'bert... it's still very, very definitely still capable of biting at the jugular if you provoke it. I'm only confident in it after a year with the Tuscsatan (which was after fresh blood on a daily basis). And a year in the Cerb. And a year in the XKR. And a year in the Vantage. And a year in the Elise. And a year in the Tomcat. And the rest of them! If I'd bought that straight out of Uni, I'd definitely have wrapped it round a tree in the first couple of months - I'm no Schumacher, that's for sure. You really, really should get one (everybody should), but one over-zealous right-foot twitch on changing camber is all it takes.
I got insurance on the Cerb at 23 or so with 1 years NCB (and one accident we couldn't get the other truck involved to own up to) for about £2200.
Hope everybody else had equal amounts of octane related fun over the weekend.
