The club. My renewal came through for this year. I'm going to renew because I'll get the money back from the servicing discount.

But I can't help thinking that daft monthly glossy full of photographs of people in suits patting each other on their backs must make up half the membership subscription cost.

Once you've seen one bloke giving/receiving an award you've seen them all I reckon -- it's a shame you can't opt out of the mag and save 20 quid. Also, they seem to be wanting to know all about my car -- even down to chassis number etc. What's that all about?

There are any number of model registers kept by the club, when some chump tries to sell something that is nt what it purports to be they might tell u if u ask nicely its a phoney !

Like any other Club u get out what ur prepared to put in , in that magazine , there are seriously useful technical articles , if u dont get to or cant buy an Autosport/ Motoring News all the Porsche related sport results ............adverts for parts and specialist Porsche kit all in one place and if u do get involved with the people some quite amusing stuff abt ur Mates doing odd things! Surprising how many of the 16000 plus UK members still not on the internet ...............oh by the way its won and been runner up as best Car Club Magazine in the last 2 years , as voted my a panel of Journos

None of which, thankfully, is written by you lol.

I hear what you're saying and there is the odd bit of interesting stuff but pages and pages of blokes in suits at dinner dances gets a bit boring to say the least. That and photographs of a load of cars parked up neatly. I thought the Porsche thing was about tear arsing about in sports cars. The mag seems to focus more on "look at us, we've got Porsche-shas, aren't we great"

But hey, 10% discount is 10% discount

I suspect Porsche Post (the monthly magazine) is self financed by it`s advertising content & so stopping it wouldn`t reduce subs by very much if anything at all. The annual accounts have just been published so you could find out although bear in mind the magazine has probably been allocated a proportion of the cornbury house / staff costs which would remain even if the mag was axed.

You may not like all the content all the time but I think it`s an incredible publication given it`s status as a "humble" club mag & the fact it comes out monthly rather than quarterly is even better.

See it as 4 or 5 mags in one. New & features, club announcements, motorsport, regional / model register news letters, classified / reference section.

It's a quality magazine, no doubt, but I find the writing to be rather amateur - more teeth-grinding than Henry Catchpole in Evo, which is saying something.

I'll check out the next issue for all that tasty content then... Perhaps I should start from the back. After about the tenth page of people in suits getting awards I normally chuck it.

BTW Henry, the possessive "its" has no apostrophe -- "its advertising content" not "it's advertising content"

7/10, must try harder...

Actually I don't think that's completely fair - although I agree they are on the pricey side. You have to remember that when I do PCGB days my insurance covers the day F.O.C. - for other days I have to pay. That's a £70 saving... So in effect for me everyone else's track days I have to add the cost of the extra insurance to. So with that PCGB days start to look more competetively priced.

Of course - if you are driving your track day special and don't insure at all this doesn't matter. But I can't take the risk of destroying my P&J - the financial hit would be too great - so I DO insure and the argument above then makes PCGB days pretty competetive for me.

Having said this - I'm off to do a day with Goldtrack shortly and its going to cost more than a PCGB day. But they've got Thruxton and I really, really want to drive it.

Preferred the old way of doing the mag - monthly "Trading Post" & quartely magazine. I think that the current monthly mag has enough good articles in it over a year for a decent quarterly mag.

You think that's bad SM, you should check out the corporate Porsche mag - Columbus is it?

edit: Christophorus.

It made me want to stab myself in the eyes. Twice.

Hey, the magazine can be a bit boring. However, my 993 has been in it several times and is on the first page of this months track day feature. Polar Silver 993.

That's all I've got to say about that.

The track days are expensive but having tried one of the other cheaper trackdays I'm definitely going to stick with the PCGB days. Call me a snob but the Barry boys and those with £50 track day specials are welcome to the cheap days.

Question: if I do a PCGB track day do I have to wear a DJ and bowtie?

I reckon the thing you're missing is that it's really just a photocopied black and white club newsletter. Since the club is so wealthy, it's printed as a glossy magazine, and to the uninitiated might give you the idea that it should compete with autocar.

Think of it as a freebie, and if it has anything interesting in it, it's a bonus. I don't find the suits interesting, but then again that is a fair reflection of the club.

Completely agree. PCGB days are well organised with a sensible limit on cars attending. The drivers are all aware of the other cars on the track and can recognise a quicker car/better driver in their mirrors and move over accordingly. I've never had a problem on a PCGB day, although Don did shout at me quite loudly whilst having a pax lap hehe

The opposite type of day was experienced at the end of last year at Silverstone. I won't say who organised the day but there were too many cars and track entry was delayed for 20-30 minutes at some points in the day. A clear sign that folk were staying out way too long for their cars. Several crashes during the day and a few others that could have been worse without the large run off areas. The level of driving was very varied and included a few "barry boys" who tried to follow some serious cars round corners with no success.

Basically you pay your money.......
