Is James Allen the right man for the job?
Discussion
There has been lots written about the guy on this and other forums and I have always felt he's not up to the job of lead commentator for F1, far too interested in the details of strategy that make listening to him a real turn off. I have therefore started a petition for those like me want ITV Sport to sit and take note...

If he isn't, who is?
I can't watch MotoGP on the BBC anymore due to Charlie Cox and Steve Parish who snuff out any excitement by just opening their mouths. Eurosport with Randy Mamola who always runs around the track and "keeps his mike open to listen" is always good value, Toby Moody is a very funny bloke but the star is Julian Ryder - an absolute commentating legend.
Those pair commentating on the Toby Elias victory last year should have won some kind of award. I'm hoping that there's some kind of Eurosport dvd for the 2006 season as I just know the official MotoGP will be a pile of dirty pants.
Gone a bit off topic with that but if these 3 fancy F1 on their weekends off I'd happily listen.

I agree, the Eurosport MotoGP commentators are very good.

take your hunch back chimp motogp bol**x back to your own thread

We're talking about replacing the cock tha is James Allen with different commentators, of which the MotoGP ones are decidedly better. So it's hardly bollox, is it?
It's okay, he said on another thread that he was intending to annoy the MotoGP fans, so just ignore him.

No I didn't! I was just fed-up with everyone chiming in saying how boring f1 is, so I just went on to there thread and pointed out I thought the motogp race was boring, they had a bit of a sense of humor failure (sometimes a winking smile isn't enough)

no your not! your using it as an excuse to bang on about how great motogp is again, those comentators are not remotely intrested in f1, most people want the old favorite Ben Edwards/John Watson lineup.
I made no mention of how good MotoGP is, simply how the commentators on Eurosport are so much better than BBC2 and how a decent commentary team can affect your enjoyment of the race.
Watching stuff like NASCAR and Champ Cars you get the feel that the people commentating are as excited as you - with F1 they seem almost narked that they've got to work. Have an interactive "fanzone" like the football, stick an Alonso, Kimi and Jenson fan in a booth, ale them up and let them go.

Oh yes, that made me smile watching the Daytona 500 a couple of weeks back.

I think that is the main problem with F1. It's sporting feel has been eroded to that of untouchable corporate, money obsessed, non-sporting types. This I think filters down to the teams which follow the circus round the world.
Maybe a job for Johnny Foreigner?
