Hi all,

Well once again I have got the biker bug well and truly in my teeth (should really get a full face...) and with the prospect of a company car on the horizon I can now afford one.

So if I were to get a first bike from one of the major manufacturers (brand new) what would you go for?

Cheers

Get a Honda. It will be better quality, better finished, more forgiving, more comfortable and you will love it.

Everyone should have one at some stage. Mine was a black/silver RRT 'blade. Absolutely magic. Hope to get another as a track bike.

They all look small and slow if you ask me

Depends on what you want Andy; must admit, I looked real close at getting a new Hornet from Devines but ended up getting a 4yr old Fazer 600: it had only done 3,700 miles so was as good as new and a couple of thousand cheaper.

I rode it through the winter, dropped it trying to put it on the stand one night. Drove off with the chain wrapped around the front wheel, knocked it over as I tried to sort out the mess. Parked in a MOTORCYCLE BAY, some dick in a van reversed into it and drove off. The tyre fitters chipped the rim putting new treads on, the front mudguard got cracked by the cover tugging on it during a gale and some tts cracked the rear of the seat fairing. I parked next to a bloke at Ride On yesterday with a slightly older red one (mine's silver) and said "Snap, same colour!" which had him perplexed until I said "Mucky!" to which he grinned and said "Ahh, but mines rusty too!".

It's my first big bike, it's a hack and it's perfectly capable of providing daily transport for the next couple of years and my heart would have been destroyed by now if it was new.

Best of all, I've got a couple of k left over from the cash I had put away for buying it and hopefully that's paying for a toy to cherish.

Tested it in Naples a few weeks back. Great brakes, easy handling, 100 horsepower, comfy and allowed me to stay in touch with Greeks and Italians on a mission.
