Yes i know its a speed six! but it looks nice and the owner is willing to do a deal on my focus ST. any thoughts welcome and any knowledge of this car would be great! the owner tells me a friend that worked at TVR rebuilt the engine vat free so no receipt,but does have photo's of it being done though!

Doesn't look quite right to me on many levels - add says brand new engine yet you are being told rebuild. Ask for the name of the factory person who rebuilt it, enough ex workers on here who would verify the name as being genuine, you might even be able to get in touch personally to verify it all, also when was the rebuild done (not mileage but how long ago?). Also concur with suspect frontal damage as no badge on nose which certainly indicates a respray. Of course could be genuine reason like desire for faired in lights and/or these cars certainly do need front end resprays from time to time (but with only 16k ever covered would it?). To many question marks for my money.

Please before you all start scare mongering make sure you know what your talking about. I had a 2001 S6 Cerbera with full history AND single headlights - and it was a superb car. Didnt need a thing during the time I had it in over 4K miles. Yes some were pigs of course, but a lot were great cars like mine.The wjheels are clearly custom replacents (does that mean its been damaged --I think not) Usually it seems comments come from people with NO knowledge of the S6 first hand, instead they seem to delight in rubishing the S6 from 2nd hand information at every turn.Please unless you have had one, then stick to what you personally know to be the case.
yes this was on ebay about 6-8 months ago, I had a really long conversation with the guy and was going to go take a look. He told me that he still has the original wheels and tyes and that the engine had the black top so was a 2005 on spec one. I didnt have the paperwork but said he had a CD with a pic by pic proof of all the work being done by someone who "was" at the factory. It sounded legit to me but the lack of proof turned me off, at the time he wanted 17k for the car so I walked away. However, getting someone like James Agger to pop down and take a look may turn up an absolute beauty - you never know.
As said, price it as though it's not had a rebuild, as there's nothing to prove it.
It may not need one...mine's A 4.2, and will need a top end rebuild due to oil usage, and I've seen other V8's on here that have had the same work.
In terms of damage, just HPI it.
Have you had a look on "AT", there's a 4.2 on there with 8K on the clock at a reasonable price.

I think you are having a kneejerk, comments on the thread so far have not in fact bashed the S6, most have just said that a rebuild without paperwork is virtually worthless, no comeback, no warranty, no real guarantee as to who did it. Ex Factory worker??? He could have been there 6 months making the tea. In my mind the money saved by a "cash job" is going to be more than lost through no backup or credentials for that job. As for mentioning the crash damage, well that is hardly S6 bashing, it goes for any car - this one has had changed headlights, has no front badge and different wheels - of course it is not 100% proof of anything, but for me that is enough to want to ask questions.

Yes you are spot on! this is the same car and owner! says it was totally rebuilt all but the block! new everything all updated to the 2005 spec parts and cost him 3k. it was the fingers that broke and knackered the lot. he no longer has the original wheels as he sold them,he did offer me the CD too! work was done in December 2006 he told me. wants about 11k for it,i thought that sounded good?
Not sure what to do now? he lives up in Durham so hell of a way to go. how much would james Agger charge to inspect it? he told me the headlights were done and a few minor stone chips done also and never replaced the badge!

I, and many others, have employed the services of Rob Ingleby to inspect

i'd say offer him 9.5 or 10k based upon a good inspection and road test by someone in the know. At the end of the day, there are plenty of 1999 4.5s out there WITH FULL history for 10-11k (I bought one) so a S6 car with NO history has to be worth less! But I must say, that colour scheme is SWEEEEET!

I'd agree with you that an S6 with no history is a risk and definitely worth discounting the cost of a rebuild for. You must have bought your 4.5 at a good time, because 10-13k is the advertised price of an early 4.2 at the moment in the classifieds. The first 4.5 is 14k and I bet that isn't around for ever. Hopefully prices are recovering a bit as they've taken a pasting recently.
