Can I do this or is it best left to someone with a bigger tool than I've got

Seriously, I can't find anything in the bible about tightening only replacing the front wheel bearing. Is it the same process or is there a way to tighten it?

Same process Ian, just tighten it to the specified torque.
Proabably worth checking the bearing though if it has been running slack.
Think I used a 3/4 drive wrench. Some talk of scaffold poles, but I had no trouble.

Ian, I've got a 1/2" Torque Wrench that will do 250footlb if you want to borrow it.

If the bearing needs tightening it is usually a sign that it needs replacing.

Unlike the wedges with tapoer bearings that can be tweaked, the Griff ones are essentially fit and forget until they need replacing.

Cheers

Barreti,if you veiw the front wheel bearing design on these cars like the same as a modern FWD car with a driveshaft running thru the centre, insted of a solid stub axle then you wont go wrong(also non adjustable)the preload/running clearence is set when the two races are assembled in the outer shellblabla

Just a quick update for you kind gents who helped, and thanks to you all.
I couldn't be arsed messing about with bearings. And I took Dave's (SPEND) great suggestion and bought a couple of brand new hubs from a guy off ebay who has a pallet load of new ones for his kit car. I actually went to visit him up near Alfreton. Glad I did too, they make their own kit car and I had a good nosey around it. Very interesting and a great alternative to the plethora of Seven copies.

Have a look at the Gulf painted one lick

A quick update in case anyone else decides to contact Spire for one of these hubs.
It turns out the hubs I bought aren't exactly the same as the ones on the Griff. They look the same and pretty much are except for the tapered hole for the bottom balljoint which is too small and would need to be reamed out.

I didn't buy the hubs from Spire as TVR Griffith but as Sierra ones, which for all I know they might be. So there's no blame with them. This is just for information.
