AVI editing and compressing, and software to do it?

Hey all,

Just brought myself one of these www.dogcamsport.co.uk/atc-2000.htm and will be needing to start to learn how to edit the avi footage, and how best to compress the end result for best viewing on t'interweb.

Could someone advise me:

1. Best software (without being too over the top) for editing the avi footage

2. Best compression format for use on t'interweb?

You should be able to do the basics using Windows Movie Maker. Just pop the card into your pc and import it into Movie Maker. You should be able to edit it and then save it to dvd etc.
