What can I say...BMW M3 whips the ass off the standard carrera (at a 17k discount!!!!!!) and most porsches are just poncey compared to any new TVR....they lack character, bang for bucks, bespoke shapes, and are too cosseting compared to the hairy arsed Lancastrian Missiles.

As for the maintenance etc, you dont really love cars if youre not willing to get your hands dirty to keep your beast in form

umm. yeah, what they said, and...

horses for courses.

if i could only have one, i'd be the porsche. if i could have a spare car for times when i don't actually have to be sure i'll arrive anywhere specific, i'll have a TVR.

much to learn, you have. simple, it isn't.

My initial thought was why would somebody bother to post this ?
particularly as they do not even post the type of vehicle they drive in their profile.
I don't think too many of us give too much thought of whether our vehicles are considered hairy 'arsed or indeed poncey.
It is interesting to notice your comments ref M3,C2 & 575M..All of these cars were used in EVO 53 for a fast club review.
Driving round the test track M3 was slower than the Impreza PPP,the 575M and fastest of the road cars behind the radical was a Carrera 2.
I have driven both M3 & Impreza PPP (STI 7) and consider the C2 to give more feedback through better steering & throttle response.
I haven't had the privelidge to drive a 575M but despite it appearing to be slightly slower on this given day,I feel it is probably the best car of this bunch.
You really have to go drive the cars to find out what is more suitable for you.
It is difficult to make quotes based upon magazine supposed tests rather than reviews.
If it were all down to best performance to the nearest pound then there would be no 575,456 or Murcielago, etc,we would all be driving around in Golf diesel's and that would be a shame.

I have just changed from a Cerbera to a Carerra, before the Cerbera I also had M3, an E36 then an E46. In my opinion, from a pure driving perspective only, the M3 is more suited to a comparison with the Boxter and thats a close call. To say that an M3 will beat a C2/4 is complete crap. On paper they look very close but in reality, on the road or track, the gap between an M3 and 911 is very noticible. Of course this only applies to my own car which is a 993 and not the 996 which I found a little to soft, but still very good. Strangely I found my E36 M3 more fun than the E46 model. As for the TVR it is in a league of its own. The looks were fantastic, the handling like a go-cart, no really, and out and out performance that very few cars full stop can match. However. It had two engine rebuilds, a leak that to this day can't be found problems too many to mention, all in one year. Plus about 10mpg. But what a hoot. If you are mad about your cars the TVR should be treated as a project, something your always tinkering with but you have great pride in it. If your fanatical about your cars in a precise/engineering sort of way it will drive you nuts. If you have loads of money get both. I'm enjoying the Carerra a lot more that either of the M3's buts its no TVR in a stait line, that said at least it started this morning !

And another thing - what exactly is 'the bomb' anyway? Yes, I know that amongst the Max 2@ brigade it means "really good", but why? Someone help me out here whilst I adjust my flat cap and pull my trousers up nearer to my armpits.

As CS has said, the standard Carrera has already been shown to be the quicker car round a track than the M3. What's that you say ? Your copy of What Car says it's .1 seconds quicker to 60 than a 911. You just don't get it do you ? People on here buy Porkers because of how they drive, not how they look or how loud they are or and this is important so listen carefully, how quick they are in a STRAIGHT line.

Go back to learning your 0-60 times off by heart and come back to us when you've actually driven something worthwhile.

Oh and be sure to let us know how much your beemer's worth in a couple of years.

Comprendez.... I think we must have that lanky sloane Tim from Big Brother in our midst

And I'd trust his judgment on cars like I'd trust him just to brush his hair in the morning instead of p1ss about with it for twenty minutes.

It's a troll judging by the posting history, and if it's genuine they can search the forums as this topic has been done to death. The home maintenance point was semi-interesting, but not enough to redeem it.
