Given the choice, would you spend your hard earn cash on an older Boxter S or the more modern 2.7?

Does the newer car with a smaller engine offer just as much as the older environment with a bit more kick?

Comments please?

Older Boxster S - there are several reasons but depreciation alone should be sufficient reason.

I really like my early S, only done 40k, no PSM, manual just a simple tool that shouldn't lose me too much. Has sports susp, sports seats, ally pack, 18's etc. Susp is hard for normai use but outside of a 911 I think it's great for the money I paid for it.

TBH and IMHO I'd rather buy a 996/993 that a late Boxster.

I bought the 2.7 987 and havnt looked back. The 2 year service interval is a major plus.

from people i know with boxster 3.2's they say they may as well own a 911 for running costs, the 2.7 isnt that much slower and in everyday driving hardly noticeable due to the way the 2.7 is geared. Both great cars though....

If it's a daily driver the interior on the 987 may well sway you, plus of course it has longer service intervals and IMHO looks much nicer.

I've never driven an S as I wanted to buy new and didn't want to spend the extra so figured why tempt myself, but is there that much difference between the 987 2.7L and the 986 3.2L in normal use?

I'd have to says thats a load of old balls The lack of low end torque in the 2.7 is very evident compared to the 3.2 S (I've owned both models). You can be lazy with your shifts with the S and ride the torque, the 2.7 you've got to drop it down a gear and razz the nuts off it!

But yes, both great cars. S is best
