Somewhere between 6 and 28mpg, depending on if you're tracking it or doing 62 on the motorway.

Thanks Mike - but on average?

Had mine for a couple of months and it's averaging 17.
No track use but general pottering and a few spirited razzes.
Sound about right?

My car averages between 10 (largely mways) and 12 (lots of inner city) litres per 100 km (sorry for the continental measures). When tracked, well, you can see the fuel coming out straight from the exhaust pipes...hehe

If you're doing a lot of low speed, around town style stuff then 17 is probably about right. I only have a 3.4 996 but consumption can go down to the high teens on short journeys.

The best feature on my new family car is a real-time fuel consumption gauge - I call it the "guilt meter".

I have a 52 mile run to work - most of it motorways .. average is about 23mpg - 28mpg dependent on whether I have sports mode on...
Around town about 17mpg some days better somedays not so. Its surprisingly not a lot different to my old Boxster S ..surprising given the 3.8 litre engine.

Thanks guys.
I wasn't surpried at 17 but read in a post on another site that someone was averging 25 on mixed driving which did sound amazingly high to me.

Varies hugely on the type of driving.

Around town I get 15mpg or less.

On the motorway it averages 26mpg. Best I've had is 30mpg on the motorway at a steady 75.

Doesn't take many town miles or traffic jams to drop the overall average right down

I would only 'worry' about it if it was significantly adrift of the norm and therefore maybe indicative of a problem.

Answer your question?

Well the norm seems to go from 6mpg - to just under 30mpg...did that answer your question?Probably not.

Just hitting 4000 miles from new in my Tip - Purchased in October 06. Mostly achieved this on runs from London to Hampshire or North Wales.
Very little London driving apart from getting in or out. Averaging 21.5 miles over the 4K. Also, added 250ML of oil the other day for the first time. No track driving but it get's a spanking!

Well the more 'helpful' replies did convince me that 17 mpg as an average is not abnormal.
Once again thanks for the help.

Mine does around 17mpg also, it does however burn a lot more than 250ml of oil in 4000 miles, I reckon at least half litre 750 miles or so. I am not to botherd about oil consumption as this is well within the Porcshe guidlines. I have just got my car out of winter time lay up. Changed my oil/filter at 4700 miles/12months old. Cant get me head around this 2 year oil change thing, that said I would guess you do an oil change in top ups on average of about 10k. By design maybe?? Looking forward to going to Oulton in it Friday to watch the track guys going round..just hope the weather stays nice for it..anyone going to just watch??

Plenty of people I would imagine. Having a Porsche doesn't mean I wouldn't think twice about doubling or tripling my monthly fuel bill.

Who buys one and worries about insurance costs? Or about parts and servicing prices? Or about residual values? Or about dealer spread? Or about what they cost to buy in the first place? Do you actually read any of the posts in this forum? Given that you seem to be inordinately pre-occupied with money, I'm amazed that you'd be amazed at someone enquiring about fuel economy.

To answer the OP, even in a 997 (non-S) gentle runs on the Autobahn under optimum conditions saw me struggling to best 30mpg. It would, but only just, and the Carrera S is slightly worse.
