Advanced Motorcycling - like RoSPA, IAM, etc.
Discussion
Anyone know if there are any organisations that do ride outs and give you advice, like the IAM do with cars?
It's not the insurance discount i'm after, i'd just like to know if there are simple things i can change in my normal riding which would make me a better rider on the road (don't do knee down anymore).

How about:

I used to work with a couple of guys who were members of this, one was an instructor. They tried to get me to join at one point (about 10 years ago) but personally its not my thing but prob just what you are looking for.
I have yet to find an insurance company that gave a discount worth having. If you shop around you can do better than their 'discount' even without being IAM, Rospa etc.
I did my IAM on bikes in about '90 and (for me, my circumstances, ability and experience; no criticism of advanced training intended) it was a complete waste of time and money. Your experiences may differ

As already mentioned, Bike Safe is to be recommended...

While I'm not sure about the IAM, the club local to me were a little stuffy, the principles of the training are very good. The guys that I did my trainign with a few years back do a silver and gold course which gets you up to IAM standard. Not the cheapest around, but, in my view, well worth the cash

A few years ago I was invited by one of their representatives to go along to my local advanced motorcyclists group (Durham).I took a couple of observed rides,in which the observers were satisfied with my riding, they told me that they had a 99% pass rate (including people who had been riding only a year or two)which made me tend to think that once having passed the advanced test you wer'nt achieving anything special.
One evening we went on a fish & chip run, there were about 20+ riders with sports bikes, and about half a dozen of us riding commuters, customs or tourers. The sport bike riders quickly made the run de-generate into something resembling a bunch of high spirited Valentino Rossi wannabees
on a sunday afternoon blast around Devils Bridge,Hartside Cafe or the Cat & Fiddle.
Basically, many of the group, instructors included just didnt seem to be practising the style of riding that they preached.
I never bothered attending the group again.
