I had the Spider wheel upgrade a couple of years ago which came with S02's fitted no problem - had Nitrons fitted no problem Have just had new Toyos fitted and the rears foul the very top inside edge of the wheel arch when pressing on! So, tyre sizes are the same 225x45x16 front and 245x45x16 rear - I have tried having the nitrons re set including raising the ride hight by 10mm but problem still there. It seems as though the cross section of the Toyo's may be squarer at the tyre edge than the Bridgestones so I am looking for any Ideas to get around it? Could I fit less wide tyres to the same rims for example? or have I got to hoon around a roundabout for half an our toround the corners off!

That sounds seriously wrong. I thought all the spider kits came with Toyos? I had absolutely no clearance probs at the rear, only the front... Is this the factory upgrade BTW.

Dave

Oops forgot to ask; you do have the rear wheels on the back dont you...

No it's not wrong. The newer spider kit did come with Toyos. The rebuild of the hubs requires alignment to take account of arch fouling. This is done using the wheels and tyres supplied. The Toyos are wider at the tread so the newer upgrades simply set the hubs a couple of mm further in.

You will need to find someone to adjust your hubs inward and reset the alignment.

I dont know what you are talking about, I had one of the first batch in 2003 ~ and Toyos were part of the deal?

TVR's relationship with Toyo had broken down when I got my kit. Their supplier at that time had no tyre option with the right rating in the required size so TVR had to supply kits without tyres, customers had to buy tyres separately. I bought Toyos. For those kits fitted by the Dealer network they were fitting tyres from stock. If you recall the Dealer network stocked up on SO2pp's in the knowledge that they were to be discontinued.

That sounds the opposite of what you first posted... I still think your statement re spacing of hubs for different manufacturers tyres sounds completely bizarre.

....but true Dave. There was a lot of fiddling to get mine to stop fouling, front and rear. I assume someone fitted yours for you otherwise you'd understand.

No... Your assumptions are not going very well tonoght?

I collected my kit from Neill and fitted it all with my own two hands, as well as having seen all the kits and the engineering required with Neill as we did the exchange as well as me letting him my old early hubs extra. That was in December 2003. I have also had 18" spiders with Toyos on the car and no clearance problems.

So yours fitted without any issues. I know mine were a pain on the arches but a bit of fiddling got it sorted.

I've just had a peep at your profile. Is yours the early Chim chassis? The early chims didn't share the Griff chassis. Maybe there's a difference there though, as you say my assumptions are off the mark here tonight.

Griff chassis here, fitted by myself (wheel and chassis ). No problems to report.

All the suspension pick up points are the same, the chassis differences are minor and of no consequence to this thread I am fairly sure. Sounds like you may have been delivered 8 front wheels ~ I have a surprisingly good memory

OP, I would still guess the fitters put the rear tyres on the front wheels ~ the offsets are @5mm different. You should have 'FRONT" and "REAR" stamped on the inside of the wheels.

Wow I am impressed. At one point I had 16 wheels and still didn't have one complete set in the right colour.

So just to get this right the wheels are the same size front and rear but are machined differently for front and rear? M
Just by the by mine is a "93" car and fitted with part of a batch of 25 sets that came after tvr "found" 25 sets of S02's following financial probs with Toyo.
If the right wheels are in the right place does that mean I will have to have the rears machined? and if so where? thanks, Mike

The first thing to check is the camber setting. If you have too much positive camber that will result in the tops of the wheels sitting further out of the arch. These wheels and tyres should fit so something must be out of alignment.

Do you mean the outside of the tyre or the inside of the tyre is grating the bodywork? I took it to be the inside ~ so you need to space the wheel outwards (your comment on machining has just made me question this understanding).

My car is 93, Nitrons also and room for a bus in the rear wheel arches. Should be able to have 5deg pos & 12deg neg camber (based on the deg=mm rough'n'ready reckoner) before clearance issues. I do now run the car quite high at the back and quite stiff spring rates, but dont remember any issues before I progressed to this. Fronts were a different matter, the battery step needed killing

Sorry about the missunderstanding - it fouls the very slightest inside edge TDC of the wheel arch (where the paint joins the underseal)with the outside edge of the tyre only by a few mm and only under hard cornering or major pot hole (which means most of the time on the roads around Bucks). It also seems confined to the nearside only!Any suggestions as it is the first sprint of the season on Sunday!!

Sorry think we misunderstood the problem, doesnt sound so serious. In fact it may be down simply to having more tread on your new boots...

I guess your options are to increase the height at the back a tad / stronger springs / more camber.
