I am thinking of going to look at 928 S2 this 928 S2. I have a couple of concerns. The car is described as having a "a noise from the rear (wheel bearing type noise)". This seems a bit vague considering the company who are selling it are called Onlynine www.only9.co.uk and appear to be Porsche specialists. Has any one come across them? Could such a noise be due to a damaged transaxle?

Hi

I am the PCGB 928 moderator...

Umm it "shouldnt" be a wheel bearing noise at rear as thats an MOT fail...and it was only Mot.ed in January....

Its also had a LOT of paint from those pictures...(accident damage ?),,,the front PU is a different red to the bonnet and wings...

Its also too cheap for the year...please tell me it isnt this one on their site..>>>>> www.only9.co.uk/928.html ???

Any more questions...just ask...

All the best Brett

Thanks for that. The one on their site appears to be a 1982 car where as the one they are selling on Ebay is 1986. Considering they are Porsche breakers I suspect it has been repaired and I will ask them the question if I go and see it.

Best advice in buying a 928 is take your time & look at as many as possible, many owners took up to 6 months to find the right one. A good one is a great car, a bad one is a money pit.
If you like the one your going to look at, take it to www.loebankmotors.co.uk/index.htm Bury (40miles), a 928 specialist for inspection.
Regarding the noise, could be torque converter bearing noise , a 10 hr job just to remove & replace the g/box.
Join the www.928.org.uk/ email list & ask if anybody knows the car & if anybody local can go with you to view the car.

I agree - torque converter bearings or torque tube bearings. I'm about to get both mine done at Paul Anderson's in Stroud, which will probably be expensive but worth it.
