Folloing F1 around the world
Discussion
Say an F1 nut like myself wanted to follow F1 around the world every race. How much would you need?
All the European ones I could drive to a lot are back to back so I would just doss around Europe waiting for the races and pop back to the UK to fly to others. What do you recon? £20,000, £30,000? Whats the cheapest you could do it for?. Does anyone actually do it?.
PS Is there any way to edit a post to put a missing W in the tite.

You could easily do it for £20000, I worked that out with coming "home" after each race apart from the double long haul races.
I'd love to do that, maybe in a few years.

You'd have to do it on the cheap though. 17 races, £1176 per race? I reckon we spent that on beer & chips at the British GP!
The cheapest way to do it in Europe if you had the time is by buying or renting a motorhome and driving from race to race. Flying back to the UK after each race is expensive and hotels anywhere near the circuits are outrageous and many want a minimum four night stay at around £300 a night plus. I did 42GP's from 1997 until early 2000 working for a team and dread to think how much it cost them.

European ones you could do for a fraction of that per race. Tickets £200, camp site, beer money, fuel to drive around Europe. Leaving a higher budget per race for the ones you have to fly to.
Have you tried writing to the team, saying you'll work for them for free and pay your own costs? Target Spyker, or teams like that?

Thought about that. Ive got links with Toyota through work so maybe they would let me make the tea if I pay for my own trip around the world, at least this would reduce my admission fee.
Its going to be a few years before I realise this dream though.
I spent three years working for an F1 team and the smaller teams want people who bring in money or skills, not take any out. Spyker etc all have budgets of around £ 50 million a year or more so unless you have a skill they want, forget it. However working for a sponsor is a different issue!
