How much play in the diff?

whilst the car was jacked up tonight I noticed that when rotating/rocking the rear wheel back and forwards there was some play between the wheel and diff. Is this normal?

Yes it's ok, rocking the wheel will make it clunk and sound terrible but it's ok its just slack in the diff and gearbox without it they would sieze up.

Strange you should say this my Cerb was up in the air last night trying to get the bloody plug leads off the bloody spark plugs.

Meanwhile I co-incidently checked this. Move one wheel 1 inch, other wheel moves. Does that help?

Looks like we are all checking the same thing.

Mine was twitchy, and before I went to have the wheels aligned, I jacked up the car to see was there any problem with a bearing or mounting.

This amount of slack in the diff is normal, and it's about the same amount as her-indoors has in her car.
