Thinking about getting back into biking after a 10 year absence. Used to ride big sports bikes and do some track days, but don't fancy another R1 type bike. Does anyone know if the MT 01 is a good choice, compared to a Monster, GSX1400, etc.?

I've seen them in the dealers and quite like the look of it, but have no experence of them otherwise.

What about an Aprilia Tuono, I had a right old tussle with one of those at Croft last year,
think it was the Factory model.

Yeah I had a similar experience with one at Donington last summer -- quite brisk it was too and he made the most of the dip under the bridge on each lap ;-) ..

They look pretty cool and are pretty big n chunky compared to current superbikes.
Its also built with good quality bits to it isnt likely to break.
Its a bit of an oddy though as the Engine is a modded engine from a Cruiser so you won't get anything like the poke of the good ol V-Max which i was expecting it to be a modern version of..
With the Akropovich exhaust it does sound very 'fat' though.. oh and i think its redline is about 5500rpm or so.. How lazy is that??

All depends what you want. If you want a grunty cruiser that looks pretty unique then great but if you want something that 'll trade blows on a performance level with bikes like the GSX1400 or Speed Triple etc then i wouldnt bother..

Thanks for your comments guys. I want to keep away from sports bikes cos I'll just end up killing myself. Always fancied a 900 Monster, having ridden one many years ago and it was a hoot, but at 6'3" could do with something physically bigger, and wouldn't mind a change from the usual across the frame 4.

Might be a daft question, but not having had a bike for 10 years, my license will still be valid won't it?

... and yes, you will get stung for insurance. Cost me more to insure my Aprilia Factory on my return to 2 wheels than I was paying for my GT3 :-(
