Just reading an article on MSN Cars, apologies if this is a repost but i did a search and scrolled through a few pages...

They qoute the 621BHP Techart as being able to do 3.2 0-60 in manual guise but then further down they say this.

"And like the car it is based on, the best performance figures are achieved with the Tiptronic S transmission. Change gears yourself and 0-62mph takes 3.4 seconds, and 0-124mph 11.4 seconds – still stupidly quick then but clearly if you want the fastest version it has to be the auto."

I thought the tips were always slower than the manuals, albeit slightly? Is this different with the 997 turbo?

Not in the case of 997 Turbo... Tiptronic is quicker - its all to do with transmission ratios as well as optimum power delivery in combination with the active 4WD system and engine management.
Standard car's figures are 3.9sec 0-62mph Manual compared with 3.7 with the Tip if my memory serves me correctly.

The 997TT Tip is able to build up quite some torque in the drive train before releasing the breakes when dashing off. This is where the benefit of 0.2 seconds comes from...
