RCR vs CAV vs Superformance vs ...
Discussion
I have just placed an order with tornado, having been to look at the factory and going for a test drive in their demonstrator ( which is incidentally the first car they produced 20 years ago, a customer had it and sold it back to them a couple of years ago). I was most impressed at the level of thought that they have put into the producing of their kit. If you order a part from them It comes with all the fixings nessesary to fit that part, in a bag/box with the part no. and description on the outside. On the inside surfaces of the passenger cell the grp panels have a "leather look", any holes that need to be cut out for door handles, locks etc. are pre-marked. Tornado have also listened to what the customers have asked for and included these into the design. They will also ask you what you want from the finished car ie a track car, road going and advise you on what would be best for you, even if it means they save you money.
I would recomend anyone to at the very least consider Tornado Sportscars for the supply of their GT40 replica.

Among the current crop of reputable GT40 replicas there really is not a bad one amongst them...the market has demanded better quality, service and value for money....
There are many reasons to chose each of the manufacturers you mention...the best option is to view all the models first hand and compare for yourself.
RCR, Tornado, CAV ,SPF, DRB(Australian)all have great products to offer at differing price/completion levels .....horses for courses...

John,
I cant answer that as I own RCR and may be just a little biased.
Drop me an email or call me .....if you are interested in knowing more about RCR products

I asked a similar question recently about the CAV product, however it is probably too expensive for me ( not saying its not worth it) I would be interested in a completed car of a high spec if anyone knows where there might be one at present. air con if poss.
I dont have the space/ time/ skills / patience to build.
thanks

when you talked to Tornado did you discuss whether other engines could be fitted? I know it's probably sacrilege to say this but if one wanted to fit for example an LS1/2 etc instead I wonder if there'd be room.
What transaxle are you going for - I've heard mixed things about the UN1 but apparently there are kits available to move it to 6 speed and uprate it's power handling.
Been looking into the GT40 thing for the last 2 years and been "tempted" by Tornado offerings particularly as they actually list parts oriented at track work (rose jointed suspension, big brake kits, integrated roll cages etc).
It would be interesting to hear your build experience - I'm assuming you've popped along to www.gt40s.com ?
I do like the RCR product - looks beautifully detailed and I understand a UK agent has now been appointed but I suspect that detailing pushes the product somewhat high up the price range.
Anyway - I wish you the best of luck (although I am of course somewhat envious!).

I went up to tornado spent a couple of hours discussing options, and being shown some of the parts that are produced.
Andy did say that bigger engines could be fitted, but there might be a little work to do on the engine mountings.
I'm going for the UN1 with LSD and an uprated 5th gear (which is better for fuel economy and top speed), a six speed box is available, which is geared for track work. Tornado have a man that refurbs all their gearboxes and does some mods to make them more reliable. Apparently the standard UN1 will cope with 400BHP but they can fit a one piece input shaft which will up that.

Thats what led me to go and see tornado. I'm going to build in some of the mods from the start. The roll cage looks good ( saw one on a chassis ready to go to the states).

Yep been along to gt40s, will be putting a build dairy on there, when I get started. these next few weeks are gonna drag while i'm waiting for the chassis Kit.
Hope you can make your dream happen, If you can go and see andy at tornado, its well worth the visit just for the ride in their demonstrator.
