gemini,
You could also talk to the folks at www.dreadnought-tvr.co.uk, owner is Brian Luti but run by his daughter Claire. In conversation Brian once refered to the work they did on the Haughins SX conversions (they may have bought the licence or been licencees?) - not sure but worth a call?

Rich, try the link on the PH TVR pages. I may have a copy of SX brochure somewhere, if I have will bring to next meeting to let you have a look at.

It is and there is!

But its only a 350 with a £3k supercharger strapped on
For that its a lot of money being asked

Stainless .Did you go to see it in the end?

The bhp is no more than a 390se which is less money!

Rich,
Don't bother looking for anything other than a 350SX - in terms of engine size. The one 390 bodied car still only had a 3528cc engine. Quoted power is 270 BHP for the SX, 275 was quoted for a 390 - not many had anything like that.......

Best guesstimate I've seen for the 390SE is 220-240 bhp, and that would be on full-fat petrol.
My 390 has a fit engine and yet is regularly outrun by my mate's Jap-import '93 Subaru Imprezza WRX (supposedly a genuine 280 bhp out of the box!) that also has a higher top speed.
As far as I can establish, the engines that were reworked by NCK/ TVR Power to 3905cc are more powerful than the 3948 that Landie introduced which became the engine in the 400SE, as the 3905s had higher compresion ratio, lumpy cam and some porting work. I don't know when or if the 400SE got the hot-wire injection: if it did, that and a different cam might give it the edge back over the 3905. I get the impression that my engine is all top-end and lacks low/ mid-range torque, though I haven't compared with any 350s or 400SEs to be certain. After it's rebuild last year, my V8 is now 3948 but has the NCK mods (albeit with a slightly lower CR than the standard 3948 as I had to have valve pockets machined in the pistons - do 400SEs have these?) apart from the cam which has been relaced.
One of the previous owners of my car used to have it serviced by Haughins over in Cumbria: one time they lent him a 350SX and he reckoned it was quicker through the midrange but similar at the top end. However, he couldn't live with the supercharger noise and was glad to give it back after a few days.

rolexblue wrote on thread www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=3&f=12&t=26690&h=0

"Sorry to take so long to reply but my connection was a bit dodgy for the last couple of days. The car is a 400 shell with 400 lights and it has a 3.9 motor sat in it. I would estimate a bhp figure of about 290 in the real world. Remember this will be a flywheel figure, which would put the car in the griff 500 bracket.

so there is a low milage 390 out there

Where is it now and where is rolexblue (alias RT) to sort it out?
