Fan over-ride switch

I'm thinking of getting a manual over-ride rocker switch fitted to my tuscan fans (I think this has been done before). Personally it would give me peace of mind knowing that if i am sitting in traffic i can flick on the fans rather than sit watching the temp gauge get forever higher and higher. Is this a good idea or could it have a detremental effect on the engine (at least it won't get cooked!). Any advise would be helpful as i have booked it in to be done in 2 weeks time.

HHmm you will get a wide range of answers me feels,

I fitted my own on my Griffith and S as piece of mind like you say and IMO does help.

Some peole say it doesnt do much as when you are standing still in traffic all the fans will do is recirculate the hot air that is allready there,possible a good point.

David Beer does a two(half) speed fan that is on half speed and when your car reaches the the normal temp for the fans to go on oit goes to full speed.

The only other concern is if u have it on when moving at speed then u are possible cooling the engine to much, remember running temp is around 86 me thinks.

I've got on on my V8S. The real positive benefit is that if the water temp sensor fails (electric fan doesn't come on whatever the water temp), you can manually turn on the fans before the engine cooks itself.

I asked my dealer about fitting a switch to my Tamora, they said it was not as easy as it is on the Chimaera (didn't understand the technicalities). My guess is a Tuscan would be as complicated as a Tamora. If you do manage to get it done would be interested how.

The Cerbera, Tuscan and Tamora all have their cooling fans controlled by the ECU. Fitting an override switch by shorting out the otter switch is likely to damage the ECU. There is no otter switch as the ECU uses its water temp sensor and secondly shorting it out will cause the ECU to go into panic mode because its temp reading is screwed up.

The Modwise kit or the method described in the bibles for the pre AJP cars is not compatible.

The main reason for the overide is because the otter switch is not reliable. The ECU system is pretty good with the only real issue (with Cerbies) is possible connector faults and an override won't help with that!

My 350i boiled up within 24 hours of ownership! I wired a manual over ride switch in, rather that play about trying to get to the Otter switch!

Hello Martin. Yep get a fan over ride switch fitted could save you big bucks.Got one fitted to my Griff 400 best £40 I have spent on the beast.But remember to switch it off once out of traffic as it does bring the temp right down.Why dont TVR fit them as standard on the new models???

I fitted one to a Chim but never bothered with the Tuscan the engine is more than adequately cooled so shouldn't need it whereas the Rover lumps needed the extra help.
