Fast Idle

Yesterday I tried to reduce my idle speed without success.
It ticks over at a fairly steady 1100 rpm when warmed up.(base idle screw 2.5 turns out)
I followed the Bible. Cleaned stepper motor.(looks new) Squash bypass hose and adjust base idle screw in until 400-500rpm is achieved. Then letting go of the bypass hose 900 rpm should be achieved.
The only way I can get any where near that figure is by winding the base idle screw right in. Please can anyone advise?

Are you sure the tacho is not telling porkys,it may be nearer 1k and i would be happy with that, get an independant check with a crypton machine or strobe/timing light with rpm readout,i dont trust these TVR fitted gauges.

Thanks Simon for that bit of reassurance. You've confirmed what I thought. The rev counter is a bit iffy. Jumps about on tick over, which leads me to believe it's not accurate. Apart from that, Its an amazing car. Haven't had this much fun since I was 19 on a Kwack 1000.
