What chip is this
Discussion
Meatball,
It doesn't look the same as its an EPROM (Erasable programmable read only memory)and the rest are processors and so on.
The bit of tape over the top is covering a glass window which stops the Eprom from loosing it's loaded data.
The Eprom can be erased with strong ultra violate light and then reprogrammed with new data,
a light box is normally used for this task. I cannot comment on whether it has a standard map in it or an after market job, the only way you can find out is to compare the data in your Eprom with a known standard one and see if it's the same or different.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Paul.

Thanks for your help paul
It's not encrypted so it's not a Mark Adams or other remapper's chip.
You would have to read it to see if it's got the TVR fuelmaps written to it or some car specific map.
I suspect it a bog standard map in there.
If you're really worried I can check it for you if you send me the chip.

My car is a 450 (with catalytic converters). The chip looks identical: it has '4.5 cat' written on it. I'd say it's factory issue.
Exactly, a LR chip is unlikely to have 4.5 cat written on it ~ the label on the outer casing may also hold a clue.. Std LR's dont tend to have sockets for the chip. This is definitely a std TVR ecu, sounds like your dealer was a bit of a Swiss Tony ~ bet he told you it would pull really well also

My 95 4.0 ECU chip looks a little taller than yours with what seems to be a black plastic cover over the chip with "lucas" embossed on the top.
Lucas supplied variants of the 14CUX with a socketed chip. In this case the EPROM was also supplied with a platic cover: this is what you can see. If you unclip it you'll find the TVR chip inside.
