Ok, i am beginning to feel very old as i cant get this damn Bit Torrent technology to work and would really love someone to tell me how to solve this.

Basically i have downloaded Bit Tornado. I go on to Mini Nova. Find file i want to download (as i already have the original and just want a back up your honour.. ;-)). download file to folder. And then nothing.

So how the hell do i download from Mini Nova and get the damn thing to work?

Please help as i'm tearing what little hair i have left out! Thank yo in advance.

I guess you're connecting through the internet trough a router and/or you're using a firewall?

Such progs connect through a specific 'port' and most possibly it's blocked now.

Find out what port you bittorrent program wants to use, should be in the settings or help somewhere.
Then configure your router AND firewall (unless the firewall's in the router) to open up this port.
What router & firewall are you running?

Edit: just googled for it and it's port 6881

I'm only watching this thread in a zeitgeist way as I'm equally confused

Found this site the other day which may help, big list of routers, choose your router and than it gives you a big list of programs, choose the program you want to use and it will tell you how to forward ports etc.

I overheard some blokes in the pub raving about utorrent. Standalone file, only 170kB and beat all of the other torrent clients they had tried for speed..

Completely lost on me

Change it! Most ISPs throttle the default port something chronic. Pick a number in the 50k range; look at the wiki for azureus for help and an explanation.

Stick with azureus. Get comfortable with one app before starting to play with more; you'll only confuse yourself.

That's true, though utorrent is said to be easier to use.
I don't use such programs myself of course

Quite so,
Actually that part of it is working well,

And I would suggest using them too
