Sigma 10 - 20mm comments?
Discussion
Im pretty sure my next lens purchase will be the above, any comments good or bad?
I had been thinking about buying the Canon 17-55 but at my current level I dont think I will be able to fully appreciate it over the kit lens. The UWA really appeals to me and suit's my style..I think!
Comments, examples and anything else most welcome

Cracking lens, changes the way you have to think about shots, wide and then recalibrate your brain for extra-wide!
You get quite a bit of straight line (optical) distortion at the widest zoom settings but you have to expect that.
Definitely a good buy and at its price point it's good value especially as it comes with a lens hood and case.

consider the efs 10-22 over the sigma if you want to go down the route of the UWA. the 24-105 L makes a nice addition to that focal length
I had considered the Canon but I've been hearing/reading enough slightly negative comments to put me off it, certainly at the extra £££s it doesn't seem to have much of a gain.

Me no know Nikon.
But I suspect so given its target demographic. ie it's probably a 1.6.
I think the D2X is a 1.3 - do Nikon have a fullframe digi body yet?
Anyway, if you're unsure, pop into your local Jessops or Calumet with your camera and ask for a play. They're usually pretty accomodating.

The Sigma AF 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX HSM DC is one of the several new players in the ultra-wide zoom market. According to Sigma's naming conventions the lens is a designated DC (Digital Camera) lens so it can only be used on reduced image circle (APS-C) DSLRs. On 35mm format cameras there'll be unrecoverable edge shading through most of its zoom range so it's a no-no here

The second of three DC (digital SLR only) lenses announced by Sigma today
10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens allows enjoyment of super wide-angle photography and it is a very powerful tool for indoor shooting and landscape photography with APS-C size image sensors of digital SLR cameras.

Sigma say its a 'DC' lens. From what I understand theres a good chance of the lens fowling the mirror on non APS-C cameras and 'unrecoverable edge shading' ...

That has nothing to do wiht the difference between EF and EF-S though, which is all about short back focussing elements. Hence protruding further out the back of the lens barrel, hence not being able to be mounted on EF bodies.
I'll repeat it - it's an EF lens. Not an EF-S.
It mounts fine, and shoots fine on both the 1D 1.3x sensor and the 5D full frame sensor, but it vignetts to 11mm on the 1D and 13mm on the 5D.
