Hi James, so was that you I saw on the outskirts of Huntingdon at 10:50 today going along the A141? Nice stripes by the way.

Hi it was me, was on the way to Ramsey to service the car ready for the fair weather. Have a friend at work who's brother in law owns a garage and lets me use it. Took all day...plugs, oil change, Coolant Change, Valve lash, speedo sensor re-allignment and an all over clean. Had to also sort the crank case breather that I added a couple of weeks ago. This has turned out to be a disaster. Have now blanked it off. Accusump is part of the problem.

Anyway was a nice day to go out but the weather was crap on the way home.

Does he do MOTs, mine is due soon and I am looking for a 'friendly' garage that will let me assist/watch.

Regarding your new breather, were you pushing oil out through it when the Accusump was suppling the oil pressure? I too have an additional breather off the mechanical fuel pump flange, although it is piped back to the catch tank. But, I have not seen any signs of extra oil being deposited in the catch tank.

How are you going to protect the front of your car, I think you are going to Marham too? Just thinking of those stripes.

He Does and he is very freindly. I Only met Neil yesterday (Garage owner). Nice Chap

The GTW (GT White) Sorry Wayne could not resist....is due for it's first MOT this year and will book it in there. The MOT ramp is level with the floor so no issues getting it onto the Ramp. I am also told that he has another device for testing the brakes as the large width tyres may not fit on the rolling road and or Ground clearance may be an issue. It is an elctrical box that had something to do with an inertia test? have not seen it so a bit unsure at the moment. I understand from the brother in law, that the garage is quite busy as he does not charge the earth and does a good job. MOT's at standard price (whatever that is nowadays £50?)The workshop is not F1 standards but is not a complete mess either. I have a dropped floor pan and can just get over the roll strip for the shutter door. It is a tight squeeze though.

Number is 01487 814543 Neil Endersby.

As for the breather, no is does not leak when the accusump empties, it only leaks when the engine is running past tickover. It does not leak when the accusump does not empty and engine is on tickover but does leak when the engine is under load. I noticed that the oil pressure started to drop to 3 bar (normally runs at 4 to 4.5 bar) and on checking the oil level had started to drop below min notch on the dip stick. I have blanked off the breather for the moment. The cr is going to Rainham for a tune on the 2nd (just before Marham) and will see what they say. As for the stone protection, I have a friend who runs a body shop that is bringing some wrap on plastic to the event to put on. Do not know what it is, I can find out if you desire.

Hi Scuff, sorry about the problems with the crankcase breather , i wonder if there is some blow by on the rings thats causing the problem ??? have you tried it with the pcvalves removed wonder if there not breathing right causing a build up of presure in the engine .

Looks like they are working, I can see vapours from the exit tubes from the catch tank. I put it up on ramps with the engine on tickover and when you shine a torch against the exit tubes you can see the vapours. I have sucked and blew one of the PCV valves but have not checked both. It is possible that there is some blow by (I hope that this is not due to bore wash as it could prove expensive. REBUILD??!?!!!). I will know more on the 2nd when I take it for a tune up.

Performance engines will have blow by which is why you should be operating a pcv valve.
I don't understand the comment about seeing the smoke comming from the valves as they are supposed to be sucking. They should allow manifold vacuum to pull the fumes from the crank case.
Re the vent on the fuel pump blank. P15ton did warn you not to do this as that area has a lot of oil passing through it to lubricate the fuel pump drive.

Hi Steve D,

Yes he did and I ignored the advise on the basis that there are 4 or 5 who have made the same mod already. I have since discovered that some with better success than others. As for the "seeing the vapours" the inlet manifold is not connected to the vent system. I have one way valves (one on the top of each rocker cover and I have called these PCV, they may not be) that vent to a catch tank. There are then 2 exit tubes from this catch tank that run down beside the gearbox and vent to atmosphere just behind the driveshafts at the bottom of the gearbox. Therefore when car was up on the ramp and ticking over I could see the vapours when a torch was shone on the exit tubes.

Apart from the valves (which will not be doing anything) your rocker vents are very factory like. The ideal would be to use the manifold vacuum to pull the fumes from the catch tank and burn them.
There is a good section on PCV in the latest Burton catalogue which goes on to say that this type of venting also helps removal of water vapours (condensation) and acids from the blow-by to reduce contamination of the oil.
