ribbon cable or control box?

Not sure which is starting to go, so i'll ask the question....

when i press the wiper buttons (either will do) but the single/washer one is more pronounced.... hold the button down to get a few swipes and a good squirt out the washers and the main beams flash randomly (can watch the little blue light on the dash flicker on and off in no decernable pattern).

so, would that be the ribbon cable or the steering wheel control box? though i may have a gander up there to see if anything is shorting as the control box is an open pcb board shoved up in the dash.

Take the ribbon out and have a look.
