So Ferrari appear to be 'having some fun' with their radio setup :-

1) During qualifying they accidently broadcast their private conv to the public TV - which included a "so the next time you hear me speak we'll be on TV" driver briefing and then the next phrase was as if they hadn't spoken for hours!!

2) During today's Oz GP they said the radio to Kimi broke so that he couldn't hear anything (hence they were making extensive use of pit board signs) - but at the end of the race there was a clear broadcast of speaking to Kimi. So why if he couldn't hear anything did they speak to him other than to use it as advertising & marketing puff & PR???

How long before they use the pit<->car radio to broadcast adverts on that will get picked up by the TV? (eg "gosh Kimi that Shell fuel must have really helped on that last overtake!" )

Last I heard was that Ferrari were the only team last season who refused to allow their pit-driver conversations to be broadcast. I can only assume that this year they've been forced to broadcast and have gone out to make a point by playing silly beggars.

They should just swear all the time and abuse the other drivers and manufactuers.

A normal broadcast then?

Indeed. Kimi was clearly chatting to Jean Todt at the end of the race about his radio on his way up to the podium.

I don't recall him receiving messages at the end of the race, only sending them but admittedly I wasn't paying much attention then.

"Relax, Kimi. Another two laps and the race'll be finished, and in the garage we've got some Marlboros and a nice Martini and Rossi vermouth waiting for you."

'Tis obvious that the whole pit-to-car radio stuff is done for the benefit of the TV audience. It all just clicks in to the footage too smoothly. Renault in particular use it as a PR game to get the audience on their side. No REAL information is given out (except for Fisi a couple of seasons ago saying the car was sh*t).

It's a bit like watching those "World's Most Insane Police Videos" programmes where they dub on a commentary and sound effects afterwards to make it sound like the helicopter cameraman is really shocked by what he is filming.
