I visited my Mum and Dad today being mothers day, and my Dads birthday last Monday.

I got talking to my Dad about what his next car would be. As he was with me during London Thunder and he has accompanied me on various TVR days out, the question I put to him was, why don't you get a Tiv Dad, you know you want to.

A very great big grin came over may fathers face, my mum retiring to the kitchen quickly, he said which one should I go for.

Ummmmmmmmmm ... Lets see .... I suggested a Griff. My father's eyes lit up with the thought of a 5.0L griff, but my mum thought otherwise.

Only trouble is he might have a problem with getting insurance. My father loves TVRs because it is british, and he wants one, and being 85 (and Mum 83) might pose a bit of a problem, but he is still driving and a more then a capable driver.

So go on Dad and have you last fling.

Just do the reverse of the normal procedure and insure it in your name with him as named driver

My father-in-law's on my Tamora insurance.
Granted he's only in his 60s, but it just goes to show that it's do-able.

Neil

PS You should have seen the grin on his face after I educated him about holding onto the gears a bit longer than he's used to.....

No No No!!!!!
What more can I say..... Buy an S3 and join the great club in Calne!!!!!! Insurance???? No problem... £250 sheets for limited mileage.
Just think you could be surrounded by S's!!!! Ian, I'll await for your comment, perhaps not, I'll take mine around for the 'old chap' to have another look. And NO mine's not for sale!!
Are we up for a pint this week?? I guess it could be three of us discussing the right motor for him!!!
Right then, your move!

Is this pint a closed affair or is anyone in the area invited?

Great. I would be good to put a few faces to dubious nicknames!
I might bring the Caterham to confuse you. It looks a bit like a TVR if you squint!
When, where etc

Cheers

I thought you were after buying a Chimaera David - have you decided to keep the Caterham? (BTW - didn't we meet up at a Wilts meet at a canal-side pub last year?)

Still lurking on the Chim side of things. Money sort of got diverted in to a wedding just at present but I'll keep absorbing info and I'm sure the time will come. I may have to decide if I want a set of golf clubs or a chest wig however.....

Sorry Ian, didn't mean to divert the thread. All I can say is that if my Dad turned up in a TVR I'd be very impressed (especially if the keys were just lying around...). Not very likely mind.
I suppose if he feels thats what he wants then why not. Carpe diem and all that

5.0 Chim if ya gonna do it. No offence to the Griff owners but I never was keen on the looks of 'em. I do however want a chim for the summer months. Wonder how generous my bank manager is feeling.

No offence taken. I know everyone dreams of a TVR Griffith, but have to be realistic and go for the chimp because they need to fit the golf sticks and stuff so they compromise. Then there are those that have so much money they feel obliged to spend a fortune on one of those new fangled speed-sixes. But people prefer the chimp? Never!
