How much for a '93 pre cat griff

First time on this griffith forum. I have somebody who is wanting to px their griff with my cerbera. Just wondering if you could give me approx valuation on a 92 pre cat griff with 66k on it. Just undergone 12k service at a cost of £2500. Many thanks Matt.

Would vary a bit depending on condition,service history,colour,spec etc.Trying to find an average,i would guess £13Kish

This is what he wrote to me on e-mail

The car is a 1992 pre cat 4.0 Griffith in Cooper Green metallic and magnolia leather trim, 66k miles, extensive service history with the last 12k mile service completed by Mole Valley at a cost of £2500. The car has had a full front end respray for stone chips in 2006, full brake pads, discs and calipers all replaced, new seats, new door trims,kick plates, new stereo head unit, new Cobra alarm, new Amil alloys and rear tyres, good hood and exhaust and drives very well. MOT and taxed, used regularly and in good order. Photos duly attached.

I wondered if you might be interested in a deal on the Cerbera for my car plus £2000 in cash.

He has sent me pictures by e-mail and she looks lovely!!!

What do you think of that deal?

About £11k if the chassis is good imho.My price before was for a 4.3,which for some reason i thought was what it was-doh!

No probs,but i wouldn't just take my word for it mind you.The best way to get a feel for what a car is worth,is to average several opinions.These cars are a pain to value accurately,as they are all different,and there is no price guide as you know.Good luck

Were I selling it, I'd be asking for £11,000 to £12,000 - as a buyer I'd expect to pay £9,500 to £11,000. Clearly, the £2,500 recent service is a major plus point and is £2,500 you won't need to spend, that's not to say something else is not waiting to happen. That can happen with any car.
It's probably worth getting it assessed by someone who knows Griffs, especially pre-cats.
Just my tuppenny worth.
NB I'm a newbie with little real experience in this field, just my opinion.

i would say 10 -11k..... carefull as there some right dogs knocking around at the lower end of the griff market

Hey G8,

May have missed the boat here but thought i'd post anyway. I personally would not pay more that £10k for a standard 4.0. I bought my 4.3BV (non factory conversion) for 11k just before christmas. I understand the benefits of a £2500 service but this doesn't really mean anything.

Of course - it could be the best 4.0 car on the road in which case spending that little bit extra might be worth it. £13k seems very steep.

A decent historied, un-messed with 4.0 has to be worth £10k - £12k depending on the colour and assuming no significant problems. If they're cheaper there's either something wrong, quick sale needed, or the seller can't evidence the condition. The fact that a 'service' can cost £2500 goes to show just how much is needed to get a bad car right or keep a good car good. Hence some cars are cheap, some are expensive. That said, I don't think a straight £10k car is worth £12500 the day after a £2500 service - but mathematically it should be.

There are two values for every car:

"What will you give me?"
and
"How much will you sell it for?"

This guy's situation is the former, so if it's all straight with historied 66k, £11k is probably fair, but he's p/xing so if I were you I'd want a bit more than that.
As an aside I'm always a bit wary of cars that have just had £x000 services. What the hell was left so long and only picked up at a service that cost that much?...
