Are you rich???
Discussion
Bit of a long story this but stick with it.
Went out for a drive in the Chim today as when i got up it was sunny outside although it was windy, so i thought to myself, a nice day for some topless driving (the car not me, yeah i know it's an old one now
)
So after satisfying my stomach with a cheese omlette and spaghetti for brekkie i got the car out of the garage and took the roof off and out i went on my own (mrs hood had gone swimming)
I got out of the estate i live in and onto the main road drove for about half a mile and stopped at a set of traffic lights on dual carriageway, lights turned green so off i went but the car didn't want to go much further, she choked on pulling away and it was only the fact that i was on a slight downhill that i managed to get her past the junction and to the side of the road (parked on inside lane of dual carriageway)
The car had just cut out on me so there i was on the side of the road with hazard lights on watching cars stuggle to get past me, so i tried to start her up again and hey presto, she started so i gingerly tried to pull away even if it was to get me off the dual carriageway as there was side roads just up the road, but she cutout on me again just as i got to a turn off (about 50 yds)
So there i am now half on the main road and half in the side road, so repeat process again to get to a suitable place in side road.........mission accomplished.
So there i am now suitably parked in side road in a parking bay outside some houses and it's time to phone for help, phone the A.A and atleast this time the women on the other end doesn't mistake my car for a Nissan Primera (another story) so i give her all my details and then sit and wait for A.A man to arrive.
Well now it decides to rain while i'm on the phone to Mrs Hood explaining whats going on so i end call to put the roof on and sit in car when the rain changes to hail then the A.A man turns up (20 minutes after phoning them
)
I explain to him what happened and he starts to investigate the problem, checking for sparks etc ........................... he works out that the problem is damp im the dis. cap so he cleans it and with a bit of emery cloth cleans the elements inside sprays it up and puts back together and i start the car, leave it running while he does the paperwork, say my thank you's and off i go.............but not for long.
I got to the end of the road and turned right (about 300 yds) and she conked out again, so i get out locked her up and ran down the road to the A.A man.
Got back to the car and he tried the same thing again but this time she didn't want to know, she turned over but wouldn't fire up, so he now explained that it would need a new dis. cap and he would have to call out a lorry to come and lift the car to get me home.
So here i am now parked up waiting for lorry to come to my aid, sitting in the Chim playing games on my mobile phone, when i catch a glimpse of a small group of youths aged about 8 or 9 (youngest) to about 12 walking past admiring the car
s then after waiting for about 45 minutes the A.A lorry turns up and the group of youths are still hanging about (had walked past about 2 or 3 times)
The A.A man starts to load my Chim onto the lorry when the older one of the youths comes over to me and says "excuse me, is that your car" to which i reply "yes it is" then he came out with a reply to which i and the A.A man found funny "are you rich?" he said to me, aww bless
"no i'm not" i replied then after some questioning from all of them as to how much the car cost, he said "4 grand" which i also found rather amusing to which i replied "if it was i'd have more than 1 in my drive/garage"
Kids eh! some come out with some funny things.

Great story, thanks for sharing! Bought my first Chim from Henley last June on a roasting summers day and was stuck in traffic 500 yards from the showroom. Two kids walked past and shouted "Fabulous car, mister!". I knew I had made the right choice!
Oddly, most of the comments I get in France (where the car is currently billeted) are from Frog kids who think it's a Porsche.

Even more bizaar, is the cheese omlette with the spagetti. - I'm thinking it must have been more of a brunch thing.
Are you sure its the dizzy, or have you been passing too many petrol stations again...
