It was a sad day when I said goodbye to my LP400. It was such a lovely example with only 3000 miles from new. Unfortunately it was a bit of museum piece as a result, which appeals to wealthy collectors - hence I received a world record offer for it that I couldn't refuse. I was just glad I had owned it for 18 months and had it featured in Classic & Sportscar, the club mag and a new Lambo book due out in the summer. Pictures of it here www.lamborghiniregistry.com/countach/CountachLP400/1120192.html

Of course a replacement was always going to be difficult...however, I have always loved the 6.0 as well as LP400.

I was keen to find a car quickly to ease the pain but as is always the case supply dries up whenever you are looking for one. I ended up getting the black 6.0 at Top Gear which has been talked about on here before - it is a stunning example. Carlo is such a nice guy to deal with too.

Funnily enough the blue 6.0 he had has also sold and I reckon its to a fellow Pistonheader too - own up!

I am the most jealous person on the earth right now. I have enjoyed staring at the pictures of that car when I get bored in the office.

Be sure to post plenty of pictures when you get it!!! thumbup

Hi Craig

Nice replacement to ease the pain! Is that Classic & Sports car article available on line anywhere? Any more details on that book - publishers etc, sounds like a good read.

cheers

Hi Adam

It was the November 2006 issue - don't think its on line anywhere though.

The book is by Haynes and will be out in July - if you look on Amazon you will see the cover.

Craig, will we be seeing you and the 6.0L at Le Mans this year then?? If so, we'll have to do a Lambo meetup at Arnage/Indianapolis on the Friday morning. I'm sure there'll be a few others up for it.

Oh and congratulations btw!! ...as an aside, I hope you don't need tyres for the 6.0L as there don't seem to be any in the country at the moment!!!

Luckily it doesn't need tyres!

A huge conga-rats from me also. I had the pleasure of viewing the car and it is in amazing condition! Beautiful 6.0 and Carlo really is a great guy wobble I took these photo's when i saw it, i thought maybe you would like to see them and have a reminder of what's about to come your way (that and i'm a complete photo whore )

thanks funky - great photos

Carlo tells me you were deciding between it and a roadster - did you make a decision then?

I did indeed make 'a' decision But no reavealing it just yet. maybe a roadster in a few years time! The red interior really suited the black i must say. Though it does look strong in the photo's it looks really excellent in person and brings the black to life. Was there slight tints on the windows? I had a feeling they looked darker and more menacing then usual!

Craig - can you reveal what you sold it for? It's history suggests that one owner refused a US$200k offer for it several years ago, so I assume it was more than that - I had thought that they could still be bought for £90k....are they now up to F40 levels?

you won't get a car for under £100k now unless its a real heap - mine went for F40 money hence why I decided to sell

I don't blame you, but it is such an iconic car and something that for me is the best looking car ever built (LP400 form only, natch) - and that includes the Miura - another beauty.

I've kept an eye on the market for some time now and precious few of these cars (if any) appear for sale - is it all word of mouth now?....do you know of any for sale?

Believe me it was a very difficult decision. I researched the market a couple of years ago when there were about 5 cars for sale worldwide but most of them were rough. As you say there are none for sale now - most change hands between collectors without ever coming up for sale. The only car I know for sale is the one in the US on Lamborghini Registry but there are lots of people after it.

yesyes

Completely agree. I did think at one time that eventually I might just be able to afford one. Sadly now I can see it's not going to happen. Thanks, then, to those who can, and who cherish them in the way the OP so obviously has.
