Hi everyone

Just wanted to share my good news with you. Tomorrow I pick up my "new" Chimaera, a 4L Cooper Green, Magnolia interior from Fernhurst TVR (what a top bloke Drew the sales manager is let me come back to take my dad out in it, picking me up tomorrow to get it!). Reg P994 LLN - anyone's here?

First impressions?
The noise - oh the noise, always loved it (wanted a TVR since I was 14 and my neighbour had a SEAC) but the noise sounds better now I won one!
OK, so it is only a "baby" at 4 litres, but the acceleration, the speed! It is just fantastic! THe grin factor is in effect! Surely this feeling never goes?
After wetting myself coming up to the first drive, I found it surprisingly "sedate" and easy to drive at low revs.
God I love the car! 11am tomorrow can't come quick enough. Feels like Christmas eve! The nose is quite stone chipped, but at least it shows it has been driven!

OK, so for a new boy, I have a few questions:
What is the best petrol? Read the thread yestrerday, is it Optimax or Super?
Been told to check the oil Monthly, no problem. What oil is best though?
Car will be parked on my drive, I want to get a cover, does this affect the alarm?
What is the waving ettiquette? A guy in a Cerb flashed me and I flashed back and waved. Do we wave to anyone else (Caterhams etc?)

Words cannot express my excitement, It has taken me from 14 to 31 to get one

1 final point, it costs £80 a year more than my current car to insure (direct line) got my girlfriend put on this policy, they gave me £25 quid back! If I wanted to insure her on the Audi Cabriolet it cost me £100! Big thumbs up there!!

Sorry for the long post, i am on

So all Fleet, Hants, Surrey, and miles around, look out for me!

Cheers
Mike
Now it's all Siles and miles!!

Edited to add, I am working my way through the bible too!

Hi Mike,

Was that you we met at Fernhurst the other day? We were picking up a purple Cerbera.

Enjoy the car!

Edited to add: Optimax. And Castrol R.

Edited again to add: Personally I flash and wave at all the other TVRs I see, even if they don't wave back. I don't usually bother flashing at other cars unless they flash first (hello Mr Ferrari driver, great car!).

Nice lot at Fernhurst, aren't they?

Mike

Aha! I wondered whether you were a PHer too. Your Chim looked great! Hope you have thousands of miles of trouble-free grinning in it! And that the weather picks up a bit...

I was actually very pleasantly surprised by the service we got there! They paid cash for my Griff a couple of weeks back because they didn't have anything in stock that fitted in with our requirements, and they were very accommodating when we went over to view the Cerb. Not to mention the fact that they made sure the car was taxed (unlike some dealers...) and had a full tank of petrol on delivery.

And wave at every one

Especially purple Cerbs.

Well, they have offered to sell my car for me (Audi Cabriolet) and offered me a garaunteed amount (also offereing £1000 more trade in value if I wanted to trade it in!), told me to bring my parents down for a drive, and are picking us up from the station at Haslemere to pick the car up, and are going over the car with a fine tooth comb. Having dealt with Audi and VW in the past, this is a dream!

Look out for me waving!

Good news, only thing is ignore Sgirl about Castrol-R, that's two stroke oil I suspect she meant Mobil-1 (a tad too thin in my book @ 0/40)

Everyone has got their own opinions on oil, I use Millers 10/40 fully synthetic

Your going to have a great weekend, weather permitting, and it will keep you grinning ever time you start it up.

I also picked up my first TVR (98 Chimeara 400) from Fernhurst just before Easter and am loving it. When the sun is out I keep leaving work early so that I can get home and take it out for a spin. Can't say I have hardly ever turned on the stereo either, do you ever get bored of that exhaust note? Probably not!

Have to agree with you about the guys at Fernhurst. Dealt with Drew mainly but all the other guys seemed really nice and helpful as well. Would definitely recommend them.

I guess she mean't Castrol RS which I think is their synthetic Mobil 1 type oil.

Congrats Mike! Fingers crossed for sunny weather this weekend

On petrol, I had my 4ltr adjusted to run on regular unleaded (95ron) which had no noticeable effect on performance. Means you can fill up anywhere and don't spend ages reversing backwards and forwards through petrol stations trying to find the super unleaded pump

I've always used Magnatec oil as thats what David Batty recommends, and who am I to argue!

Mine lives/lived on the drive throughout the year. Buy a Leven cover, it's easy to whip on and off and certainly keeps the windows frost free in the winter. It doesn't effect the alarm at all, in fact I've only ever had false alarms with the cover off. They're £150, but well worth the investment.

Only advice would be to check the waterproofness of the roof and seals through the summer, not wait until the winter before finding where the leaks are coming from. It's difficult finding them in the dark and a bugger to fix when it's cold and raining.

Whoopsie! Sorry, I meant Castrol RS.

Of course, the purple beast will be getting only the finest olive oil hand-pressed by peasants...

Mike, congratulations on the new car. You'll love it -- I did for four glorious years. Fab noise, fab performance, stick to Fernies and you should get fab service too.

What you won't get is fab engineering but that won't matter for at least a year or three...

Thanks Tim! Just looking into child seats at the moment actually... We've got to wait for SBaby to grow a bit first so that we can put him in the back of the Cerb!

BTW congrats on the arrival of SBaby, its great to see other people with children and TVRs, don't do what we did and have more children than you can fit into a Cerbera, otherwise i might have bought one, I still manage to keep a Griffith in the family though.
Cheers Tim
