Can anyone help me find a reliable trimmer who can repair the Chims rear hood section. The stitching holding the plastic window is showing its age and starting to decay. It will need doing soon. I'm in Sheffield. Thanks

cheers robin racer...i've seen this thread and i'm tempted to have a new roof put on it at that price! thing is it's really just the stitching around the window that needs looking at! of course i could just not bother, it is summer after all!

A B Moore near Lincoln (one man band operation), restitched my window and did an OK job for about £150 I think. If you need the number e-mail me and I can dig it out from the yellow pages.

Try "Rich the Stitch" on 01302 322893 or 07818251967, thats at Doncaster. I put my hand through mine while cleaning it and made a 6inch hole. I took the roof off and had it re-sewn back together on his machine. He charged me £35, he said he could put me a new one in for £100.

I had my rear screen done last weekend at a guy in Milton Keynes who was competitively priced... for a reason, it turns out. I wouldn't recommend using him. I don't have pics to upload, but suffice to say, at first attempt he missed stitching the window in one corner for a couple of inches, and even after retrying the window fits badly, is rippled, the stitching doesn't look good, the cloth on the rollover bar has bubbles where it isn't stuck down properly and on either side of the car, the hood no longer attaches to the velcro properly - one side has too much cloth and wrinkles up, the other doesn't have enough and barely attaches to the velcro. I would take it back and ask him to do it again properly but I have no faith he can. And it wasn't a business so no real comeback on shoddy workmanship. Suffice to say you get what you pay for, any my whole roof will need retrimming before the summer's out unless I want a mobile swimming pool for a car this winter.
