From BBC News ...

"And Southgate was not in an apologetic mood after James Morrison's wild, late lunge on Ronaldo, which earned the youngster a red card.

He added: "In that situation, we would all love to do that.""

Gret attitude ... so its fine for one his players to try to injure an opposing player just because he went down in the area and got his team a penalty. Personally Southgate should be asking Woodgate why he actually tackled Ronaldo in the area ...

Thats not quite what he said, the actual quote was:

"In that situation, we would all love to do that but you have got to be mature enough to make the right kind of tackle."

In fairness to Southgate he always comes across as fair and reasonable, I guess it was just heat of the moment stuff. I've not seen the penalty so don't know if it was or wasnt but from his point of view they have played Man U 3 times and had penalties against in each of the games.

Definately a penalty, although Woodgate was unlucky to concede it. He made the decision to go for the challenge and missed, catching Ronaldo's trailing leg just above the knee, possibly with his own knee.

IMO Morrison's lunge at Ronaldo was more out of frustration at being made to look foolish than out of malice. The show pony had gone past him more than once and was probably giggling at him just before the foul. It was a nasty challenge though.

The post match interview with Ronaldo was amusing. He either totally misunderstood one of the questions (alluding to his being a cheat) or chose to ignore it and give an answer to a totally different question instead. hehe

Nah, not for me. Not enough contact to knock over a toddler. Ronaldo was looking for a penalty, he had no intention of going anywhere near the goal.

That may or may not be biased by the fact that I hate Ronaldo.

My brother and his friends have decided that Gareth Southgate looks like a carrot. They're not wrong.

What Southgate wanted to say was "nice try son, we all wanted to do that, next time do it properly & break the cheating gets legs"

He had to water it down for TV though. Shame really, the original version is far better.
