MGF Cutting out, anyone else had this?

Morning All!

My wifes 2001 MGF (steptronic) has cut out recently (luckily at low speed), I wonder if anyone else has experienced this? It fires up when the key is turned again, straightaway. Any ideas would be appreciated!

If it gets worse check the oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold is may be cracking up. My Elise - same engine had it's disintegrate at 65k miles. Apparant a common problem

Hello there, cheers for the response. I'll get that looked at. Didnt realise they were the same engine. Apart from the cooling problems, it seems to be a nice engine!

Mine has been fine for 9 years and just turned 80k miles today! However I did punt a new big valve head on 3 years ago which probably help on the Head gasket front. The k is just sooo tunable!)

If yours is an older one it might be worth looking at the lst MGTF radiator water bottle which has a low level switch which you could wire to an alarm.

I have had the 1800k in a rover coupe which did have HGF and I know a could of others who have had it in MGFs and R75s. It is down to luck really. Just if you see any evidence of HGF failure get it sorted before the head warps and the cost to fix it skyrockets!
